AM 1510 seems a bit crowded tonight

I just got out of my car west of Nashville. We all know WLAC has some signal issues to the west at night. SH was on so and I was just driving checking out the station not for the Hannity show, for the signal.

What a mess! Sunset is 8 cdt in Chicago now. I was hearing gospel, which I am sure is WWHN in Joliet, with ESPN in Spanish, which I am guessing is coming out of Wisconson.

If I'm correct neither of these are supposed to be on the air at 8:10 or 8:15 in August. I also believe they are supposed to be on CH by 6.

WLAC was being hit hard at times, with WWHN staying pretty steady and ESPN-D taking over the frequency every minute or so for about 30 seconds, before fading completly.

If I wanted to hear Hannity, I don't think I could have kept listening, the other two stations were interupting to much.

Is this common?

WRRD is the ESPN Deportes. I heard them on a Global Tuners node in CT near sunset one winter. When you're listening at sunset, you can get some good catches that you can't get at sunset!

Here in Vermilion, OH I'm hearing something under WLAC right now particularly with the radio oriented WNW to ESE. Sounds like sports talk (in English)

You're correct about WWHN and if the other station is WRRD Waukesha WI, that's correct at well. A check of the FCC data shows August sunset time for both locations is 8:00 and neither station has post-sunset authority this month (well, for mostly all months). And, yes, both should be on critical hours power at 6:00.

It's worth noting that this sort of thing happens frequently around the first of the month with a lot of stations, whether it's a problem with automation or human error. Last month's sign-off time for WWHN and WRRD is listed as 8:30.

1510 KCKK Littleton CO is fairly strong in Boise. It souldn't be their at all. Supposed to have a deep null w-n-w / e-s-e. Local sports shows.

Here in Central VA I've noticed the last few evenings that the upper end of the AM band has been a little more active and the middle of the band has a lot of hash and fading in and out with the regulars after dark.

It's 5PM here and even before seeing this post I was trying on the new Grundig G-8 for my old-cowboy records station from WWSM 1510. This station, from downstate Lebanon, PA, usually puts a swell signal into here.

But I'm just getting some male voice, mumbling, immersed really low into the summer noise. No Don Gibson ; no George Jones ; no Loretta Lynn.

The male voice you described is what I was hearing last night around 11:30pm EDT underneath WLAC here in Ohio. I thought I heard Baltimore mentioned and it sounded like a sports talk show of some sort. I'll listen again tonight and see if I hear it again.

Long shot, but maybe WWZN? They are back to Yahoo Sports Radio, per the Boston board: http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=216382.30

That would make sense....WRRD throws the biggest chunk of its 23 kw (20kw during critical hours) to the east, with the biggest null to the south. I'm about 60 miles due south of their stick, and I almost never hear them.

As for the main topic of the post, last I checked a few nights ago, WLAC was it's usual strong self here.
I'll try to give 1510 another listen tonight.
