AM 1540, Exter, NH Ready For Switch?

All day today (Wednesday, March 11th) the radio station still listed as WGIP-AM 1540 in Exeter, NH has been broadcasting an unmodulated carrier. It usually airs a simulcast of WGIR-AM 610 in Manchester (also on WGIN-AM 930, RAAAW-chester, NH). The station was recently sold to a new owner by CCU. So it's
possible it's going through this exercise until it gets new call-letters. I haven't seen any application for new calls, but they've been known to happen overnight (WTTT---->WWDJ). I love the coverage map for its presunrise and nighttime facility on radio-locator.com...it's lucky if it can be heard on nearby Exeter Country Club.

I actually thought it was off the air yesterday and today. In Portsmouth, I could faintly hear another station airing some type of colon-blow infomercial.

If the transmitter is still on, are they running a legal ID near the top of the hour? It doesn't matter if there is audio or dead air, if there is a carrier, the station must air a legal ID at least once an hour, near the top of the hour.

As of Friday afternoon (FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH!), thery were airing some variety of mass-marketed recorded material (maybe "oldies") with an ID on the hour giving the WXEX call letters and the names of several towns, not just Exeter. The slogan: "music that's fun to listen to". Evidently the new owners don't realize that you're not supposed to use a preposition to end a sentence with.

I caught a little bit today while in the car. The processing sounds a little crunchy, but I'm guessing they got the control room put together and are testing.

That was the point of the joke in the first place! BTW, it's mid-afternoon and already WDCD is slaughtering WXEX here in northern Massachusetts. Is there something wrong with the sun? It's almost AT the equator, but it can't squelch a not-so-great-although-it's-a-50,000-watt-staion in Albany, NY?
