I heard Smyrna's 1550 frequently around sunrise and sunset in Ohio in the winter during their Spanish days, no doubt like Atlanta residents heard 1530 from Cinncinati.

WCKY (1530) out of Cincinnati puts out quite a signal reach. I remember listening to their station on my car radio a couple of years back during lunchtime while driving around in Roswell, very likely due to the lower sun angle during the late autumn months.

Probably just keeping it on the air so they don't lose their license.

How long can a station (legally) stay at low power anyway?

Radio stations can operate at power lower than 10% of licensed power for 10 days. Longer than 10 days, notification of the FCC is required. Longer than 30 days and an STA is required.

I really like the music they are playing. It's kind of an odd variety of stuff but better than some of the programming you get here in ATL. I would like to see them try make some money with it.

I've driven from Snellville all the way to Kennesaw and north of there and can pick them up loud and clear. Whenever I head in to town, the reception gets really bad. Almost every power line gives the audio a jolt.

Actually, you can tune to 106.7 and get the same programming, yep, 1550 appears to be programming with programming from True Oldies Network, I've even flipped between 1550 and 106.7 and heard the same exact song about 4 secs apart (delay prehaps?)

106.7 would be the station that has the delay. HD radio stations broadcast the analog with a few seconds delay so it will match the HD-1 channel when a radio switches from HD to analog.

I noticed that when listening to the Tech-Missy State game on 106.7 and watching it on TV at the same time. TV was ahead of the radio PBP--by about 20-30 seconds! Back in the day radio was always a few seconds ahead of TV. If you saw a great play on TV you could hear it unfold again on the radio.

I was listening to 1550 today and checking 106.7 and the songs were different. 1550 played a little less British Invasion and little more 70’s R & B. I wish 1550 had night and better critical hour coverage north of Cherokee County.

Are you sure you weren't receiving 1550 WLOR from Huntsville? They carry the True Oldies Channel and I have noticed I can receive a very good signal from WLOR when WAZX is off the air.
