AM 530 back on the air after many years being silent...

Well its not a commercial music format but its now broadcasting NOAA 24/7. The tower and transmitter are still at the Expressway off ramp at 10th and Packer Avenue...The station used to broadcast traffic information in the 80's and 90's but has been silent since 2000, it has just been brought back with weather, but dont know what else is in store for the station. With the low end frequency it really gets out..picked it up in Cherry Hill and Moorestown NJ today....over and out....

No calls or ID, most of these public service stations do ID, but not this one as yet....When they were on years back they used W245AG, I think that is being used now by some FM signal using a tower in Rox with flea power around 96-something on the dial...

Last time I checked a TX with no call's is not licenced. Or self licenced.

Usually these pop up LP stations cut in with the calls and location in-between the NOAA and traffic updates...which is tough when you are trying to hear the weather and just when its getting close to the local data this voice comes in and identifies itself, with this station is clear sailing....can you pick it up at your location.....??

Does the port authority own it? Maybe back on the air with the upcoming construction on the WWB? Didn't it give traffic info the last thime there was construction on WWB?

It sounds like he's describing a TIS. (Traveler's Information Station) Usually, these do indeed have (and use) call letters. There's a number after the letters -- something like "WQEY672". Technically, they are NOT broadcasting stations and will not show up in the FCC's Media Bureau database. (they *do* show up in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau database)

Some TIS stations belong to the federal government. Seems to me most of them are located in national parks. Federal stations do not require FCC licenses (they're authorized by a different federal agency) and often do not have call signs.

Yup that is the xmtr location but its a bit to the right than what the coords state...if you go to any maps you have to go a bit to the right and you can see the pole with the loop on top and a few rods stretching out...Would you believe I picked this signal up today at Concord Mall...amazing and 1340 has problems...go figure..
