AM 540 is flipping....litterly

K-SERF Oldies is no more. It started with "The Curly Shuffle" a little after 6am and now they are playing a non-stop montage/mix of disco and dance music.

First of all, the word is "literally". If you don't know how something is spelled, there are online dictionary services, like mw.com, that you can use. Unless, of course, you meant to convey the impression that the new format is "trash", as in "litter".

Also, the old station name was "K-Surf". A "serf" was a low-class servant to a knight of medieval times.

And finally: The new format is not completely disco/dance, but is -- according to owner Saul Levine, inventor of the Format of the Month Club on 540 and L.A.'s 1260 -- "the greatest music of the past 50 years".

Speculation has already surfaced on the LARadio.com website that this is another stunt on Saul's part, like when he went all Beatles on 1260 a decade or so back before going Adult Standards. For all we know, he may plan to adopt that format (for the fourth time) when 690 flips.

690's gonna flip again? When? To what?

Espanol Talk for XETRA-AM 690

Espanol talk sometime in the next couple of months. Clear Channel sold the U.S. marketing rights to a group based in Spain.

Because the moderator makes me type these electrons out (because of the work release program) ...

Grupo PRISA owns about 1400 stations in Spain, France, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Panama, Costa Rica and Mexico. In Mexico, they are 50-50 partners with Televisa in their radio operations.

XETRA will be programmed for the US, including LA. They are recruiting Spanish talk talent in LA and San Diego, and will use some syndicated stuff out fo XEW in Mexico City.

The US amangement office is in Miami, where PRISA operates WSUA. The Hemisphere expansion office is also located in Miami.

Yeah, well, I knew something was wrong... The music on the live shifts improved last week.

Probably the talent having fun before the axe fell.

Gosh...maybe one day we'll actually get a station of substance en "en inglés"!!

Perish the thought!

At 12:45 AM it was 540/1260 "The Shuffle."

Perhaps Sol baby was at West Hollywood Gay Pride!

Who is programming that disaster?
One thing that was noticable even
during the oldies format is bad
production or no production
values on that station, some
kind of in-house or third tier
image voice, and no focus. Otherwise
damn good station

So other than that you liked the play,
Mrs. Lincoln? [grin]

They do all their production in-house. They've got decent talent, but they're all demoralized, so the imaging sounds rotten because the jocks literally don't care.

According to John Regan, the mid-day dj, the station will flip back to standards on Friday, the 17th. He will stay, doing exactly what he did before the switch to oldies.

So it was all a stunt, then?

Really! Did Regan say this on the air? When?

I wonder if Saul might be splitting the stations, with 540 moving in a "replacement for 690" direction and 1260 doing the "shuffle" format.<P ID="signature">______________
