AM 590 WDWD Going to 12,000 watts

AM 590 Radio Disney will be boosting to 12,000 watts in about 30 days. Work in now underway with new phasers, atu's and another new transmitter. The current box will do 12,000 but it will become a back up. Disney is spending big $$$ on the site. It's really a pretty nice site BTW. Russell-Mania is staying busy and good news for 590.

Someone really needs to explain to me why Radio Disney is still around. I have a hard time believing that 10-15 year olds have any desire to listen to music on AM, or even know what AM is for that matter.

'AM'. Aren't those radio stations that only broadcast in the morning? Or AM radio, I think my great-grandparents used to listen to something like that. We read in U.S. history class about President Roosevelt giving his fireside chats, as the whole family would gather around the radio set. I heard they only had radio back then because the internet was new and too slow for streaming.

You have a point. My daughter likes listening to RD on XM, and I tried 590 on her in the same car and she wanted me to turn it back immediately. I'm looking forward to seeing how it sounds with the higher power and better pattern over here in Gwinnett--right now, the current pattern doesn't cover Gwinnett well. That would be a boon for the other car with no satellite.

Has Jabba17's daughter been consulted on this?

As for caller 10, You have no idea how slow that Roosevelt fireside chat was on a 28.8K modem. It would stall all the time, plus if you got a phone call the address would stop and you would have to get back on line.

Are you kidding me?? Here in Hoosierland we had to crank our telephones until 1974! Our number was 6-21. Each phone had a unique ring depending on your number. You had to listen for your ring cause all the phones on your line were given the same "shock" to ring from the operator. Our ring was 2 long rings and a short. All the phones were party lines. Anyone on you line could pick up their receiver and listen to your call though there was an audible click when this happened. You think nothing was good about this system? Well our phone bill was $6 a month!

Here is a pic of the type we had: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=120398904860
