Today on WIP 610 AM, Howard Eskin will do his 5,000th radio show. The show starts at 3 PM ET and ends after 7 PM ET tonight. According to Michael Klein, guests include: Terrell Owens, Larry Bowa, Ron Jaworski and Dick Vermeil

Junkie & booty -

Just because you aren't interested in the topic doesn't mean you need to interject the nothing-ness you have chosen to leave on this thread.

Like Howard or not, he is an institution in this town and if this thread wasn't started, it would have been a big oversight. It wouldn't have been surprising seeing that most people here don't seem to know that the Sportstalk format actually exists, but I digress...

I wonder why WIP chose today for the 5,000th show? I highly doubt there was someone there with a counter every time he came into the studio starting back in 19-86.

Kyle,

It isn't that I'm not interested in the topic, it is just that Eskin is a pompous jackass and who gives a you know what if it is his 5000th show. What has he done for me (or Philly for that matter) lately?

I hear you booty, but like I said before, like Howard or not this deserved to be mentioned. It's a radio board and Howard has been doing a talk show for more than 20 years, at the same station (for the most part) in the same time slot.

If I don't like someone and there is a thread about them on the board, I leave it alone.

Anyone else here logged in 5000 shows at the same station? The truth is that it is of legendary proportion. And try it without 12 songs an hour to help the old TSL. Even if you don't like Sports or don't like Howard the person, his longevity and professionalism as a Broadcaster is beyond comparison. One of the true pioneers of Sports Talk Radio. And unlike a lot of the others who came up through print journalism or as former athletes, Howard was a Broadcaster back to his producer/engineer days at WFIL.

His ratings performance and longevity are truly amazing in a very fickle business.
Whether you like his style or not, it is quite an accomplishment.
Whenever I am in town I like his show, but always think that it could not work anywhere but Philly.
Any idea how old the guy is?

Bobby Abreu should ask Joe Torre if it's ok for him to tag along with Larry Bowa and appear on the show. Abreu should beat his but and Larry can assist.
