AM 740 Changes Calls

As of July 22, 2008, CHWO has changed it's call-sign to CFZM. They had been CHWO since the station's birth back when they were on 1250.

Technically, CHWO (AM 740) was considered to be a new station in 2001 for Toronto, and the original CHWO from Oakville on 1250 continued on as CJYE.

Me thinks Mr. Zniamer loves to squeeze his initials in any way he can.
From what I understand there is plenty more change coming to CHWO 740.

It is believed that there will be some changes as early as August 11
If my information is correct, they are adding a talk show from 10 am until 1pm.

You're correct changes begin on Monday with Norm going to afternoon drive 2pm-7pm.
I wonder what will happen to Frank,Bill and Eva????
Any feedback or knowledge on this situation,it's a real shame we lost WRMR RADIO IN CLEVELAND,OHIO
It was a MUSIC OF YOUR LIFE/AM740 FORMAT.
Damn shame that Toronto is taking a page out of the USA NOT SMART.

Are these changes still on the the 11th of August? I looked on their website and I didn't notice either set of calubal letters, they just refer to themselves as AM 740 without any call letters.

I'm not in the local area, so I'm really in the dark on this one; are they morphing into a talk station?

(in Canada's southernmost province - Florida) :)

btw- listening online now; have never been able to recieve CHWO/CFZM here with the interference with an Orlando station on 740 as well as inteference from a Cuban station as well.

As of August 11th, here's what I seem to have for the AM740 lineup,
If anyone can fill the gaps and missing information, please feel free to do so:

5:30am-10:00am Bill G&Eva D

10:00am-1PM Dale Goldhawk (hosting a talk show-name to be announced.)

I understand at this time, that 1pm-7PM is music programming, but I am not sure who will be sitting in the "air chair"

7pm-11 is understood to be music programming, but also rumoured to have some old timre radio shows thrown in...I'm guessing for the 10pm hour...?

11:00 pm to Midnight Stardust with Ziggy Lorenc (Monday to Thursday)

1050 CHUM's "Sweet Dreams" will continue to have a slightly different sound from AM740's Stardust program, but...could that still be direct competition??

Thank you for the information, Yeziknoradio.

It sounds as though they might be testing the waters for a talk format; I hope not. I know many people from Cleveland through Rochester that enjoy the format; and as you know most a.m. band stations south of the border are political talk with little or no live or local content.

Sorry, somehow I missed the edit deadline.
This should have been added to the above posting:

"Man, I cannot wait to get going on The New AM740,” says Goldhawk."

I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if the station eventually goes all talk. This, in spite of the existance of other news/talk outlets in the market. CFRB, CFMJ, CFTR. Not sure if I'm leaving anyone out here.

While many of us on these boards, (myself included), love the standards format, we have to face facts. The audience for this music is dying. I'm sure the new owners of AM 740 are not going to waste those 50 kilowatts on a format that won't make money in the long run.

I wouldn't be surprised if they even look into killing the classical format on 96.3 eventually.

Say hello to the world of corporate commercial radio everyone.

Classical 96 is not going to vanish.
AM 740 on the other hand is unpredictable at the moment.

Here's what I believe will be the end result of all the changes going on at 740, with classics that still go further back, respectfully:
(something I'm surprised AM 640 didn't jump all over first!)

You forgot CJCL, Fan 590, which would respectfully be a better example than 680, as CFTR is a news wheel, not a talker.
All 680 is allowed to do is report the news, not talk about it.
