I've been spot-checking them off-and-on since the day after they signed back on.
What it sounds like, is that they have a 3-CD changer in the studio. They have ONE custom-burned CD which has all instrumental hymns on it, and two short liner/ID's which alternate. It is the same 3 CD's playing over and over and over. Last week, someone changed two of them. (It used to be one of George Beverly Shea and one other.) Now one is foreign language hymns. (GB Shea is gone.)
Does ANYONE know what the deal is? Are they going to be playing "Sacred Music" as a permenent format? Is this just what the Engineer prefers? Is it the Engineer's voice on those liner/ID's? It's been the same thing for three weeks, now. Let's just say that it's gone BEYOND old & stale.
Someone else in this thread asked why people who want Religious music can't just listen to WTHE... the answer is both simple AND complex.
It's like asking why people who like Country & Western can't listen to Hip-hop.
Religious music has just as many genre's and styles as non-religious music:
1) There is "Black Gospel" which is like R&B and/or Urban.
2) There is "CCM" which is like Top 40.
3) There's Rock, and Metal, which are self-explanatory.
4) There is "Inspirational" which is like a "Lite" or "Soft rock" format.
5) There is "Sacred" which is all hymns and choirs, similar to what WNYH is doing. (Only with VASTLY more variety!)
6) There is "Southern Gospel" which is like Country.
ETC... I think you get the idea.
WTHE falls into the "Black Gospel" category, which is a very, very different style from "Sacred".
