AM 790 Switches Formats

from classic country to talk. Roger Hedgecock is on right now. I wonder if they will carry the entire Salem talk lineup? Hopefully Hugh Hewitt will be on this station.

I wonder if there is any chance Heidi Harris will simulcast her new morning show on 790?

The jingle is sung as follows... Seven Ninety, K-B-E-T, Winchester/Las Vegas, Now... Talk.

I listened on Wednesday... Glenn Beck 6-9 AM, Mike Huckabee 9-Noon, Dennis Miller Noon - 3 PM, and Roger Hedgecock from 3-6 PM. The sound of the station sounds muffled, overmodulated perhaps, as if the talk show hosts are talking thru a long pipe. I hope the station engineers can get it improved.

I like Roger's show the best and will continue to listen to him. The options in the same time slot are Michael Savage on KDWN and Kevin Wall (Wahl?) on KXNT.

I always liked jingles on talk stations...the classic "720 K-DAWN" jingle was great and was on the station from when the station launched in the 70s up until the day Beasley took over.

KXNT had a top of the hour jingle for awhile and now KBET has one which I like quite a bit.

KBET runs Loveline at night.

It seems no matter what mix of talk shows are put on talk stations can't get much of an audience in Las Vegas.

Engineers?!?! You obviously are not familiar with Royce Broadcasting International.

Huckabee IS on KBET. They also run ABC news. Did they steal it from KNUU or can there be more than one affiliate?

In other KBET news... board-op (and everyone's favorite groupie) Jason Suarez quit after only two days on the job.

Let's see if I have this right...

670 KMZQ Conservative Talk
720 KDWN Conservative Talk
790 KBET Conservative Talk
840 + 100.5 KXNT Conservative Talk

So that's four different stations in Las Vegas where we can hear Pres. Obama and the Democrats get bashed 24/7. (OK, Coast to Coast, Michael Smerconish, Dave Ramsey and sometimes Dennis Miller are exceptions.) Except for NPR, there's no place on the radio dial for discussions about how to get your kid into college, what to do if your marriage is in trouble, new ways scientists are mapping our brains, or any subject other than Conservatives are always right and Liberals are always wrong. Whoever thought Talk Radio would just be about one subject?

I also notice that one poster above says KBET is running Dennis Miller in the daytime and yet KDWN's website lists Dennis Miller for overnights. Is Miller on both stations?

I know KDWN as a CBS O&O runs CBS News at the top of the hour and KKUU runs ABC News. What networks are heard on KMZQ, KDWN and KBET?

Interesting... Today--Saturday, (4/21) KMZQ/670 had Science Fantastic program from 1PM-5PM and then when I switched to KBET/790, the same program was on at 6 PM... So, I guess there's duplicity for now and maybe the Dennis Miller Show and Science Fantastic program are finding a new home? What's next?
If Heidi Hayes is replacing Glenn Beck on 4/23 (as posted in another topic on this site) in morning drive on KRLA, will she be heard here???

How come Vegas will never have a liberal talker, like Denver, LA, SD, SF, Portland & Seattle? Why is that? Seems like they're always more conservative.

A lot of the time there is actually no political talk at all on Las Vegas radio. 6p-9p KDWN has "ask the experts" and sports while KXNT has Dave Ramsey (politics are a million times more interesting than hearing personal debt stories IMO).

Weekends are especially bad if you want political talk, it's mostly a wasteland of infomercials with the exception of a few hours on KXNT such as Billy Cunningham on Sunday nights.

790 should counter program by always offering something political during the hours KXNT and KDWN are non-political.

I'd really like to have Tammy Bruce back on in Vegas--her show was on KDOX for a while, and it was kind of a nice change from the usual political talk/hot air.

If there was a market for Liberal talk radio in Las Vegas, you can bet your Democratic voter registration card that there would be a station carrying it. All stations spend a lot of money on research to determine what will sell in their market. Although I haven't seen any of it, my guess is lack of demand for liberal radio. That seems funny to me in what is normally considered a Blue state. Maybe the next election will show it's otherwise. Radio is a business and our business is not to lose money. the stations where I am employed stay out of politics generally airing only sports and music

I don't agree with the idea that if there were a demand for Progressive Talk, Las Vegas would have a station for it. That might be true of FM stations. For a full-power FM frequency, the larger station group owners may do research. And we all know that research is far from fool-proof. In many cases the research company KNOWS what the owner WANTS to do, and finds research to back up that opinion.

But no one is doing research on AM stations. Talk formats are always going to be a hard sell in this era where no AM station in Las Vegas gets much more than a one in the ratings. Geez, even KNXT, with both a strong AM signal and a full-power FM signal, is only getting a bit better than a one rating. So believe me, whoever owns 670 or 790 or 970 is running the format they THINK will do best for them but which they also personally like.

I'm sure if any of the Conservative Talk stations switched to Progressive Talk, but still had a good local morning show with quality news, traffic and weather updates all day, it would do just as well or better than it's doing as one of four Right Wing talkers. Nevada might be a conservative state but Las Vegas is a Democratic-leaning city.
