AM 810 WEUS is now on the air playing Oldies

The Big 810 WEUS signed on today and they are running Scott Shannon's True Oldies format which has a nice variety of music from the 1950's thru the early 1970's. I guess the air america deal fell through which is just fine with me. They are not in AM stereo but they are only running one channel, and you can really hear it in some of the songs. Yea, yea I know it's only day one but nonetheless a good day for oldies fans here in Orlando. I just hope they get out there and promote the heck out of the station now. There are people who want this kind of music, and they need to know that it's back again.

Hmm, good for those of you who wanted the oldies back, I guess? It's too bad they can't grab the old WGTO calls and really get the old sound back on the air, like it was back then. I agree with you, and hope they get this out to the community and take advantage of the situation of not being in the corporate radio mess--even if they are just a satellite station.

FWIW, I have determined the location of their actual facilities to be in the Capital Plaza building at Lake Eola, 301 E. Pine Street in Orlando, and microwaved out to the OV transmitter from there. I wonder who their chief engineer is?

WEUS's owner is Carl Como Tutera, who used to own 99.9 FM along the coast.

The engineer for WEUS is named Frank, but for the life of me I can't remember his last name. It's not Strnd from WLBE.

AM 810 WEUS

Isn't he the guy who got busted for embezzling millions in the sale of 99.9 in the late 80's???

Re: AM 810 WEUS

I don't know of his history, but he just sold his AM 760 in Tequesta/WPB...

WEUS is not yet on radio-locator.com. How much power do they have? What kind of pattern? Are they 24/7? I assume that if they are, they have to protect WGY?

You can use information from FCCINFO.com for this station instead, for the time being. Current specs are 10kw/day 0.4kw/night, DA2 for both. Four towers up daily, and only two running at night. Still operating under a CP status for now. Patterns and much more useful info can be seen in the results of the FCCINFO query, which I'd post a direct link to--but they seem to use session IDs to get you the information, so it would be pointless to do so.

Hmm, in other related news... The domain BIG810.com was registered back on Jan 10 by what appears to be Carmine Tutera. Mailing address indicates a location in the Heathrow (Lake Mary) area here on International Parkway, just down the street from where I happen to work. Hmm.
