AM 820 KORC, Waldport, has a new owner and format

This should be an interesting format to foist upon the 2,000 residents of Waldport...
and on AM. I listened to this when I visited the Oregon Coast this past Tuesday...

I wish the new owner well...
And to the former owner Larry, good luck in your retirement. You deserve it!

Well, it has been six or seven weeks since Rocket blew into Waldport. No filings shown for an ownership change at the FCC as yet, only Larry Proffitt's petition to go silent. Maybe it is an LMA, and really not sold as stated. From being in Waldport a day or two, and listening to the bad internet feed on AM, it probably does not have a really bright future. You also have to consider it is being fed out of South Georgia. Hard to get really "local" with that. Then there is the programming, in a basic coastal retirement community.

I agree, BeachBoy - that format seems radical not just for AM radio,
but for a pleasant, retirement city like Waldport...should be
interesting...

My friend, "Medford Stan," and I visited KORC on May 5th, and Larry led
us to believe that the station was, indeed, being sold - I suppose it's an "eleventh-hour" deal with the people responsible for "Rocket Radio"...

Larry and his wife plan to stay in Waldport to enjoy the retired life...

We'll see what happens shortly, and see if the FCC database will be
updated, accordingly...stay tuned!

There have been many posts on pdxradio.com on this. Bottom line, the new owner (or assumed owner), has a questionable past. The pdx posts are temporarily down due to a change in providers, but this story is still playing out. I just hope nobody in the area gets swindled too bad from this.

You got that right, SRFreak...the news in today's local paper says that KORC's deal fell through,
and that the station went silent May 16:

I feel sad for Larry, but - as beach boy said May 12th - how could a format like this survive in
Waldport, let alone on a stand-alone AM?

Interesting - as of at least Wednesday, 6/4/09, the above weblink returned
to its original content...no more redirecting to "Rocket Radio"...
