AM 840 KXNT PROTECTING WHO?

A

Who is AM 840 KXNT protecting to the southeast? You can't hear anything at all in the null, at least not within the metro region. There's a class A on 840 in Louisville, KY, but 840 cuts out to the southeast. There are other 840's on the FCC site in various places, but it's hard to tell. Is someone out there dark on 840 right now?

Also, are 840 and 1140 turning their IBOC operations off at night? CBS's KNX 1070 (L.A.) has been going digital both day and night.

Probably 830 KFLT Tucson, 50 KW days, almost no power at night, but licensed anyway. When I lived there 9 years ago, they were not running much if any, i.e. 25 watts.

840 is tunring their IBOC off at night. Accoding to their CE, It's company policy if the stations can't make NRSC5 standards which relate to the amount of signal going out from the carrier frequency. Almost no AM IBOC stations can if their antenna is at all complicated. I didn't know that 1140 was running IBOC at all.

Thanks....CBS Radio's Newsradio 1070 KNX (ND1 50kW) is running IBOC day and night, but I don't think KCBS Newsradio 740 KCBS (SFO, directional) is, I'll listen tonight. I like to listen to the legendary Larry VanNuys on 1070 KNX evenings! DEMO!

There are several fulltime Mexican stations that predate KXNT they may be protecting.

since they run coast to coast at night what difference does it make? Listen to 780 out of Reno or Knye. Oh, they run Mike Gallager, who makes money off promotions involving the troops.

The night pattern undoubtedly serves to protect the 1-A clear, WHAS/Louisville. The day pattern most likely protects 850/KOA in Denver, primarily, and 830/KFLT in Tucson, secondarily.
