Marc, I can see where that would be annoying, because I'm one of the world's biggest nitpickers when it comes to trivial matters
Here are some similar beefs with stuff that I hear on the radio;
On one of my favorite satellite-fed music stations, if the national break isn't covered, and the station continues with the network music feed that they run
for those stations who don't cover the break; they'll run a local liner after the break, (which leads into the next song,) which quotes "Now, back to America's Best Music". Well, if you've been paying attention, you've JUST HEARD a complete 3 min song! The liner SHOULD read... "Continuing now with more of America's ...." To me, that's just dumb programming.
And then this one; (which drives me
totally nuts!
Another one of my local AM`ers will complete the network news at the top of the hour. The live jock will come on, do the time, weather, temp etc... then once he's FINISHED speaking, and the first song of the hour is cued and ready to start, a jingle/bumper is heard which is sort of a tacky drum roll of sorts and says - "Now here's
[insert dj name] on AM....
blah blah blah" Then the song starts. Well to me, that sounds like the DJ is singing the song!! First of all, the bumper is ridiculous and un-necessary. We've ALREADY HEARD the DJ talking, so to announce his name in blazing glory AFTER he's said his peace... is just dumb!!
Then the other thing this station does, is to identify themselves with EVERY element of what the station does, EXCEPT the music. Music is comprises 70% of their programming. But get this; after EVERY weather forecast, they remind us they are "the weather station". After EVERY sports update, or sports PROMO, they remind the listeners that they are "the sports station". After EVERY PSA, or news promo, they remind us they are "the information station". But never,,,never,,,never have they ever called themselves "the music station" after playing a song. IMO I fail to see the necessity in "reminding" us that as a full-service station, they provide those services hourly.
Now, does YOUR annoyance on CHML seem less trivial :
