AM Applications Abq

Application has been filed for a "Minor Modification" on the Peralta CP to change frequency from 1120 to 1100 and reduce power to 800 watts, daytime only with the transmitter at a site between 2nd St. and Barr Canal, south of Rio Bravo Blvd. Document cites the prohibitive cost of constructing and operating the 50Kw Day/250 w night operation and discusses serving a niche audience. A second application was also filed on November 10th to move KDSK (1240) to the same tower. KDSK had previously sought approval to broadcast from a tower in Rio Rancho where the station has studios.

Well. Going South of Rio Bravo certainly isn't going to help KDSK with Rio Rancho. And assuming that KEMR is ever built out, should make Peralta interesting in the East Mountains.

It appears they are trying to put out a minimal AM signal on the KNML tower. Currently it seems like the only possibility for an FM broadcast would be to replace KIVA on 93.7 which Telebeeper operates along with the KDLW translator in Santa Fe. KIVA in it's current format could likely survive with just an AM signal but if there is some kind of music format is planned with this new station then FM will be a must. Is there any format at all they could really make any money with on a daytime only AM? KDSK probably cares more about the 92.9 translator, though not a great signal. As for KEMR the permit expired in September but it looks like they recently filed for a new one in Moriarty. However is there much money to be made out there?

KEMR, I am told, fired up the site in Milan, to keep from going silent. KEMR is looking to get a 102.1 translator going when they get the AM up and running. I guess the original plan was to move the translator closer in to ABQ but there are already 2 stations on 102.1 so am not sure how that is going to work. Current pattern (per the FCC) has the FM translator with a pattern that doesn't even get out to the AM. Not sure what is happening with KEMR. BTW, the Moriarty area is served very well by local non-comm KXNM.

The call letters for 1120/1100 are now KVVD Peralta. The modification is still awaiting approval. So what kind of branding fits KVVD? Vivid?
