Ya still can't go wrong with a 9100B that's been recapped and aligned. Get one on Ebay and send it to Bill Sacks.
Or, if you want new... I've been using the Omnia One on an AM station and quite like the sound. If they would add the 5th limiter band, I'd like it even more. Have been A/B-ing it with a 9200 with the last firmware update. Different sound out of the two boxes, both sound good, but still don't know which I like better. I do like the Omnia better on music programming but tend to favor the Optimod on male voices.
When I was last in NYC, a lot of the flamethrower AMs (3 big ones) that I saw had an Ariane Sequel followed by a 9400. And they all sound good. I have the Ariane Sequel on the AM client in front of the 9200 as well, with the Optimod's AGC disabled. Sounds really open but still loud on the dial.
Whatever you do, I would put the Ariane in front of it. I haven't been paid to say that, either! It's just that good.
