AM CCM radio

I got to thinking recently how that in the 80's until the mid-90's that the only CCM radio that was available in my area (West TN) was on AM, mostly from low power stations in Memphis. In the past 7 to 10 years, everything has moved to FM with more stations and tanslators spread out through the area. Where I live now the only AM CCM stations I can get are WJQI 540 in Clarksville, TN and occasionally KUGT 1170 in Jackson, MO (Near Cape Girardeau).

In Memphis there is WPLX 1170, which carries K-LOVE and will probably be sold by EMF eventually since it was part of a group of stations they bought in the Memphis area and had no real need for. KSUD 730 was another AM station owned by EMF, and it was recently sold and the format was changed to ESPN Radio. I think that WPLX will eventually be sold as well, possibly after changes are made to move it to 1180 that are in progress.

I really don't listen to these stations except once in a while to see what they're doing, but in some ways I miss being able to get CCM radio on AM. Part of that goes back to it being local and I could hear what was going on with events in the Memphis area, which I don't get to hear on the satellite networks now.

I know that any kind of music format on AM is getting rare, but what other AM stations are still doing a CCM format? By that I mean a station that is still mostly music, not one that is mostly talk and might use some CCM for filler. Thanks!

sunshine 800 new orleans has ccm during afternoon drive. and on weekends. there are more stations go to www.hisair.net and llok at the list of stations. its most of the christian stations in the country listed by state. and country.

I think Joy 1590 on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is no more; they would put a decent signal into West Mobile.

In Huntington, West Virginia, there is WTCR-AM. The signal isn't great though in the Ashland, Kentucky part of the market.<P ID="signature">______________

The other AM CCM was not in our market, but was listenable. It dropped CCM for
teaching/talk and inspo music on the Skylight Satellite Network.

On FM, we have a WAY-FM, an out-of-market barely listenable K-Love and another station that plays a Salem AC Christian format.

I used to love listening to Christian radio, but I must say, I've stopped.
After working in the business for more than 20-plus years, I find it sad that there is not a single local CCM station in this market.

My wife and I end up listening to the country station when we're in the car, because there is nothing else on that appeals to us.

In Georgia, there's WAFS-1190 out of Atlanta, but it's mainly praise and worship delivered via satellite by Salem. In southwest Georgia, it's WJEP-1020 broadcasting out of Thomasville, Ga. with a powerful 10,000 watts. Both stations are on the air from sun-up to sundown.

Also try www.christianradio.com. That website also has a list of Christian radio stations nationwide, as well as worldwide.

There's also:
1510 WPGR MONROEVILLE PA gospel
1150 WGBN NEW KENSINGTON PA contemporary gospel
1080 WWNL PITTSBURGH PA religious (good representation of CCM)

The FM representation of CCM is 101.5 WORD-FM (but, only on weekends).
