AM Dave speculation anyone?

There's a thread speculating who will replace Cletus on the Bull (assuming they stay the Bull) but, going with the assumption Dave stays Dave, anybody have ideas about who's be a good choice for that?

I'm gonna go out on limb here and say Tim Orff stays put. After the Stephen Duane Barnes (darn it, I just got sued) and the unmemorable Zakk Tyler experiments, Tim is a safe choice who will deliver the same size audience and cost a hell of a lot less. Besides the man's got the best guns in radio.

I liked Orff in late nights, but he's not exactly major market morning material.

But, as Neil mentioned, would a real morning show be worth the investment in terms of ratings and revenue? That frequency has been cursed for morning shows in recent years.

From what I've heard about his arsenal, I thought Art "madman" Mehring has the best guns in radio! ;D

Having been Tim Orff's boss in the past, I can honestly tell you that you don't know Tim. He has MORE than enough talent. He hasn't been allowed to use it! He probably won't be allowed to develope a real show. But I can tell you that if allowed, he could provide a morning show that would be just as good, and better, than MOST of what Atlanta has now! Don't blame Tim (or his talent) on what Dave allows him to do.

Honestly, until someone in management at Dave learns or is given the gift by God to know what good talent is or sounds like, the smartest move would be to just stop trying and let it stay a music robot in the morning.

Perhaps they've figured out that a fair piece of their demographic are NPR Morning Edition listeners.

Well, at least I am. I figured that's why earlier in 2008 they moved Mara Davis up an hour to 9.

The problem with Orff - talent aside - is that, while he's solid as a jock, listeners don't really have a passion about him one way or another. And "delivering the same size audience" is exactly what Dave DOESN'T need. That size is the whole issue. They need to go with somebody who can move the needle a bit and, as we're seeing from PPM's, that respectfully isn't Tim.

I was listening last night around 11:45pm and heard a tease for "The Zakk Tyler Morning Show." Someone needs to check the computer and erase his drops.
