AM dial and Spanish stations

I have noticed as I scan the AM dial around 680 that on the 670 frequency and others near it I hear what I think is a Cuban station. I may be wrong. But I have heard Mexican stations at this time of the year that come in now and then without the HD signal. Do they still run 100,000 watts on their stations or is it just the conductivity of the atmoshphere?
