One comment about WAAZ - stereo carrier but mono music - why they broadcast in stereo is beyond me.

Watch yourself Rob. It's a good thing you didn't post that comment on the Florida or Alabama boards. The "pros" would tear you apart for questioning the Crestview stations. The owner has friends lurking everywhere.

Ever hear the station ID for WAAZ? WAAZ is just an FM station rebroadcasting WJSB AM. The AM isn't in stereo so the signal sent to the FM must not be either. It's one of the last holdout stations with an AM signal for cars and tractors with old factory installed AM radios.
Not long ago WAAZ was a class A station, now it's a class C. When they upgraded they prepared for the future. The future might reach Crestview sometime in the next 20 years, who knows... who cares... after all, it's Crestview.
It doesn't really matter though, the "good" music they play in the mornings and afternoons probably wasn't even recorded in stereo.

Back on topic:
I just looked at Zack's list of stations and noticed that the most unique AM receivable in Gulf Shores during the daytime is missing. KLEB 1600 from the Louisiana swamps has a Cajun (French and English) talk and music format. The station comes in very well at the beach. I'm sure the station used to be on his list. I wonder why he removed it?

an 540 WFLF be recieved from Orlando on the Alabama shore?
Good question. I've never heard it here before, but for the last 6 months our local station on 550 has been silent, so you might be able to pull a weak signal from WFLF. WFLF's sister station WFLA from Tampa Bay comes in here during the daytime.

WFLF is audible (barely) daytime with a good radio at the place we stay each year on the beach right at the FL-AL line.
