AM Format swap in Charleston

Today, starting at 6am, WQSC (Real 1340) ended its five years as a talk radio station, and picked up the Headline News and ABC News 4 (wraparound) format that had been on WQNT (1450) for years, way back to 2000-2001.

WQNT is now a sports talk station again, all Fox Sports Radio all the time, but eventually, they may add local shows to the station. During the morning, it ran a loop telling people to go to 1340.

This leaves shows like Dennis Miller, Laura Ingraham, and Mike Gallagher unavailable in Charleston.

Real 1340 has been a station in turmoil since Imus in the Morning went off the air. They have gone through three morning shows, and untold other stuff.

The crux of your post is incorrect. Real Talk Radio 1340 remains talk-based. Dennis Miller, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham have gone nowhere. The only change is using the CNN headline news from 6 to 10am in place of the recently departed Andy Thomas. The CNN Headline News was on AM1450. That station, as of 5/5/08, has become a second sports station for Kirkman Broadcasting.

Sorry, I misquoted. When I tuned on, I thought that they had switched formats. They did do that in the morning, but not the rest of the day. You could change the story to mean that they dropped Andy Thomas, and are now CNN Headline News in the morning, but they still have their regular talk format the rest of the day and night.

It is still noted that WQNT (1450), the long-time CNN Headline News station in town, who had Fox Sports at night for a little while, is now all Fox Sports Radio, all the time, becoming Charleston's second sports station after WTMZ 910.
