AM frequency of the week: 1050

Okay, guys. Since nobody has tossed out another one, I'll go again. What do you hear on 1050 where you are?

For me, far northwest suburbs of Chicago, days it's semi-local WLIP. 250 watts non-directional from Kenosha, WI. 33 miles to my northeast. Fair signal here.

Nights: WLIP stays at 250/ND, but usually gets lost in the slop. CKSB is usually the most likely to be on top, but I'd rate it as "semi-regular" at best. CHUM used to be a frequent visitor in the past, but not so much lately.

Sidebar point: What made me think of 1050 as a thread topic was this.... I was tuning the frequency before sunup this morning and heard WLIP all alone. Odd, but conditions in general were pretty terrible, so I chalked it up to auroral activity. And indeed the southern blowtorches were pretty much all present, while other more northerly regulars were very weak or missing entirely (CFZM and WTAM being two examples). Didn't find anything new or unusual from the south, however.

Here in Vermilion, OH 1050 is mostly splatter from local WJTB 1040/N. Ridgeville, OH. Sometimes I can hear a little but of CHUM/Toronto with a weak signal. At night nothing much stands out amid I-BLOCK slop from KYW 1060

In my travels, I've found CHUM to be weak, but reliable in the far northeast corner of Ohio. Basically from Geneva and points east.

Same. In Conneaut, it's there but not particularly strong. 740 from Toronto also a dependable listen that far northeast.

1050 days is a very weak KEYF Dishman, WA (America's Best Music, 1050 the Key).

Sunset I usually get KTCT San Jose, CA (Sports), KBLE Kirkland WA (EWTN) or CJNB North Battleford SK (Country). Nights is a mix of KTCT and CJNB usually, but an UNID Mexican has popped up from time to time (haven't IDed it, thinking XED however)

My other 1050s have been KORE Springfield OR (Christian) and KMTA Miles City, MT (Oldies).

I was thinking Conneaut when I wrote my earlier post about CHUM being audible in far northeast Ohio. As for the Toronto 740 (CFZM). I've heard the day signal as far south as Zanesville .

And speaking of Conneaut.... The little coffeepot there on 1360 does a surprisingly good job making it across lake Erie into Ontario. Very listenable for about a 50 mile stretch on the 401 freeway.

Yes it does. I enjoy dropping in on 1360 when I head up that way to visit my girlfriend's family (that where she's from) and admit I was surprised to hear how well they get out.

In my case, in the Downriver Detroit suburb of Wyandotte, during the day it's local-bordering-on-semi-local WTKA (Ann Arbor, MI; an NBC Sports Radio affiliate). At night, it's mostly static, but occasionally spillover from KYW 1060 (Philadelphia, PA) is heard on 1050.
