AM Frequency of the Week: 1080

Thanks. The surgery has been moved to tomorrow, Monday 1/15. Outpatient, Will be back at it as soon as I am able. Should be good to go for 1090 for next week. If not, Steve Green has offered to pinch hit for me. My sincere thanks to him!
Good luck and best wishes!

In the Wilkes-Barre(Northeast PA) area, daytimes it's usually nothing. At night, it's mainly WTIC from Hartford, CT. The signal can sometimes interfere with KRLD from the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but as of this writing I do not remember ever receiving the latter.
Also, on my Sparx HD radio, when WTIC used to broadcast in HD, I only received the blinking "HD" light when trying to lock in the signal, but it was not successful.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
From Aberfoyle ON:
Very weak WUFO Buffalo during the day, WTIC Hartford CN dominates at night, WWNL Pittsburg PA and WWDR Murfreesboro NC were heard in the grey zones.

Oops, Hartford CT not China.

Days nada.
Nights usually KRLD Dallas, 857 miles
Dusk couple times WWNL Pittsburg, 212 miles
Surprisingly haven't logged WTIC yet.

Here in Pickerington, Ohio, not all that much. I'm about 50~ miles east of Bouncer.
By day, I remember hearing WMVR many years ago. Not strong, of course, but there.
At night, equally weak KRLD and WTIC both can make it here depending on conditions. I think I've heard KRLD only three times ever up here, and at least two of them have been in that window between Hartford sunset and Dallas sunset. It seems like I'm a couple hundred miles too far from Dallas to hear KRLD consistently.
I swear I remember hearing WTIC at more listenable strength back in the early 90s, when I first discovered DXing. Never strong, but more listenable than today.

From NW San Antonio:

Day: On my most sensitive radios away from RFI, I can hear a faint KRLD.

Sunset: KRLD starts coming up with a decent signal. I can null it by aiming NW/SE and sometimes hear a weak Radio Cadena Habana in Cuba.

Night: KRLD is very strong and almost like a local. On my Sangean HDR-16, it triggers the HD indicator and occasionally locks in to HD for a while. XETUL in Tultitlán is sometimes heard weakly underneath or when I aim NW (in which the KRLD null is now only partial). Occasionally the Cuban station can be heard weakly in that direction.

Sunrise: KRLD starts to weaken and falls prey to skywave/groundwave cancellation. XETUL is heard more consistently underneath or mixing in for a while when it goes to day power.

DX/Retro: One time loggings include KSLL (classic country) in Price, UT, at sunrise and WQOS (Relevant Radio) in Coral Gables, FL, at night. Also, I've heard KGVY (classic hits) in Green Valley, AZ, twice - once at sunrise and once at sunset.

Here in Wood Dale, IL in the near NW suburb of Chicago:

Daytime: WNWI with good signal
Nighttime: WNWI with decent signal and usually with Brother Stair Ministry whenever I tune to 1080

DX/RETRO: WNWI used to be heard during daytime even when they were broadcasting from Valparaiso, IN. The switch to Oak Lawn, IL that happened on March 27, 1998 messed up the frequency for Chicago DXers. Prior to the switch the two reliable catches at night were WTIC and KRLD. This frequency was the best bet to hear Connecticut on AM in Chicago area. Other DX heard on 1080 are KWJJ (Portland, OR), WCII (Louisville, KY), WEKS (Marietta, GA), WKAC (Athens, AL), YVQJ (Barcelona, Venezuela), HJDZ (Medellin, Colombia) and 4VRD (Port au Prince, Haiti). Did manage to hear a new one with WNWI partially nulled: WOAP, Owosso, MI in 2022.

@cyberdad hopefully everything went well with the surgery.

1080 in anchorage appears to be off, it otherwise owns the channel 250 miles away.. 1080 from portland or is most common here, followed by KRLD and then the Idaho station

From west Houston TX, daytime is slop from local KNTH 1070 and sometimes a vy weak KRLD. At sunset and at night, KRLD dominates but nulling them usually gets me Radio Cadena Habana.

Retro: for a while back in the 70's KRLD ran a progressive rock music show at night. With their strong signal, they were the only source of progressive rock in most of west Texas and New Mexico. Visiting my cousins near San Angelo, they all had KRLD (and KOMA) as presets.

Clifton, New Jersey

Days/Nights: I receive WTIC "WTIC NewsTalk 1080" Hartford, CT, which airs News/Talk programming. Reception is weak during the day and decent to good at night.

DX/Retro: On 12/27/2021, I received daytime-only WKGX Lenoir, NC a few hours after it was supposed to sign off. The station identifies itself as "Classic Hits 104.5 & 99.5", the dial position of its FM translators.

Central Kentucky:

Days: WKJK Louisville. OK signal but won't stop the scan on the truck radio. Despite being 10 KW.

Nights: A weak WKJK with KRLD underneath.

WKJK is the sister station to WHAS and carries all the national Premiere talk shows. There are no local talk shows.
There was speculation that after Rush passed away that their replacements (Clay Travis and Buck Sexton) would be moved to WKJK, opening up the 12-3 slot for a live and local host on WHAS, but it didn't happen.

In central CT about 10 miles from the towers, I get WTIC day and night. Earlier this year during the 2 or 3 seconds when WTIC turns off the transmitter to change their pattern at sunrise I heard WWNL from Pittsburgh ID at the top of the hour. I bet they don't have many Connecticut listeners.

Central Kansas:
With KFTI next door, KRLD is a bit hard to receive daytime, but comes in no problem at night.

North Iowa:
Daytime, the closest stations to me are KYMN/Northfield and KOAK/Red Oak, neither of which I’ve been able to receive. Nighttime, KRLD.
