AM Frequency of the week - 1090 kHz

KR4BD said:
From Lexington, KY 1090 KHZ Looks like this:

Daytime:

WKFI Wilmington, OH

Night:

KAAY Little Rock, AR
WBAL Baltimore, MD

Sunrise/Sunset:

WHGG Kingsport, TN

The same, except I have not heard WHGG at sunset.

Plus sunset includes WBAL, WTNK in Hartsville TN, and WCZZ in Greenwood SC.

In northeast Kansas, get local KEXS 1kw Catholic radio from Excelsior Springs MO daytime and KAAY Little Rock AR every night. Very religious frequency!

I am still hearing KAAY faintly through the IBOC hiss from 1100 in Cleveland. So they are apparently still on the air.

As posted in another thread, they're back on with an STA for 5kw ND fulltime using a "borrowed" transmitter. Among other things, the result of this is KAAY being heard in places where they normally wouldn't be on their nighttime pattern. Last night, (Friday, Feb 15) I was in Birmingham, AL where they had a fair-weak signal, but were alone on the channel. Birmingham would normally be pretty much in their nighttime 50kw null.

Supposedly, the plan is to replace the ruined equipment and restore their former facility. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if they got really comfortable just using the STA. Just a guess on my part. But if indeed revenues are in the toilet, keeping the STA going for as long as they can would seem to make good sense from a biz standpoint.

Eastern Iowa:

Daytime--KNWS Waterloo, IA. This daytimer comes in and is borderline listenable. Years ago used to be faint at best (I'm about 50 mi southeast of their transmitter).

Nighttime--A faint or completely absent KAAY (which used to roar in like a freight train in the 70s and 80s). Have occasionally picked up KMXA from Denver faintly; probably not powering down at night, or failing to reduce to their allowed 500 watts from their 50k in the daytime. Often these days, this frequency is silent at night around here. I've never received KPTK or XEPRS around here at night.
