AM Frequency of the week - 1110 kHz

What can you receive on 1110 AM?

Here in Vermilion, OH it is nothing but IBOC hash from WTAM/1100 during the day
At night, WBT/Charlotte can sometimes be heard underneath WTAMs hash.

Northern VA,

During the daytime, nothing. Just some bleed over from WUST 1120 in DC.

At night, it's WBT loud and clear when the loop antenna is pointing to Charlotte, NC. Otherwise, it is mixed in with WTAM's IBOC. During the winter, I start hearing WBT by mid-afternoon as well as WTAM.

In Durham, North Carolina, day and night, is "News Talk 1110 WBT", though the nighttime has alot of interference, I think from the IBOC of either WTAM, KMOX or both. I can't recall ever receiving anything else at 1110 kHz. The only other 1110 in the region of which I'm aware is Norfolk, Va. daytimer WYRM, whose transmitter is about 180 miles northeast of town in Isle of Wight County on US 17/258-VA32 a few miles south of the James River Bridge. I think they may operate with 50,000 watts or something comparable to it. I've actually driven past WYRM's site at night listening to WBT.

I've also heard WJML at night here in Central Kentucky thinking they were on Day Power. I find it hard to believe I've heard them deep into the night with them running only 10 watts considering WBT and WTAM's horrific IBUZZ that covers the frequency.

From St. Petersburg,FLduring the day, it is WTIS 1110 featuring brokered religion and colon cleanse and vitamin informercials. WTIS is daytime only and runs 10,000 watts, licensed to Tampa, but with their 3 tower array in extreme n.e. St. Petersburg.

WTIS did have a CP (that expired several months ago) to change the city of license to St. Petersburg and to move their tower to Tampa. ??? If that CP had been completed, they would have been nondirectional with reduced power during critical hours.

At night, WBT 1110 Charlotte normally rules, although sometimes there is some interference from what I believe is a Cuban station.

Far Northwest suburbs of Chicago....

Days: WMBI has a good, clean signal.

Nights: One of the more quiet frequencies. Usually, it's a weak KFAB. Occasionally WBT. Spillover from WTAM and KMOX can be an issue.

As was discussed in another thread recently, KFAB goes to their day pattern at sunrise in Charlotte, so they do put in a good pre-dawn signal here for a time before WMBI comes on.

Sorry I forgot to mention that the reception of the 10 watt TX was likely around 2004-5 when, at least for me ibLocK from WTAM and KMOX was either not yet authorized at night by the FCC, or these stations didn't have theirs on at the time. I tend to want to list all of my catches I've ever heard on a frequency, not just the current ones.

I did not realize WGNZ was directional until this post ... you saying it's weak in southwest Ohio, (presumably) far closer to the transmitter than I am in Columbus, prompted me to check.
Anyway, around here it's WGNZ with a pretty decent signal and IBOC hash from WTAM clearly underneath about 120 miles from its tower. Night, it's a fairly weak WBT but nothing else really encroaches on it, other than WTAM hash that is.

In Rochester NY, 1110 daytime is WSFW Seneca Falls, about 45 miles to the east. All WBT at night, of course.

Day:
KDIS Pasadena, CA - reception quality depends on the radio...
on a radio with poor IF selectivity like my Panasonic RQ-SW20 - 1130 KSDO's splatter owns the frequency.
Sony SRF-59 - weak but listenable signal, slight residual splatter from 1130.
Tecsun PL-606 - faint signal under heavy blocking/desense from 1170 KCBQ, signal strength indicates 41,00 to 43,00 approximately.

Night:
KDIS Pasadena, CA - fading - sometimes fairly strong,sometimes barely readable.
KFAB Omaha, NE - usually weak under KDIS, slightly better when KDIS is nulled.

Daytime and nighttime: WBT. WBT comes in weakly daytime, but on better radios, it comes in stronger. WBT varies at night. It can be very weak, mixed with foreign stations on the frequency, or it can be just as strong as the local stations. We are in their skywave/groundwave cancellation zone. Fifty miles S, however, the signal can be as strong as can be at night.

WTIS also comes in sometimes during twilight hours, and one morning this year, I picked up KFAB weakly, just fading in over WBT.
