AM Frequency of the Week: 1150

I’ve stayed at Eaton Centre. Not an AM-friendly spot. What portable do you take on trips? The little clock radio in a hotel room isn’t good for DXing most of the time.
I had the SRF-37 Walkman with me. Had it been a longer trip with more luggage. I'd have gone with the C Crane Skywave, which is also a good radio for travel.

The Eaton Centre Marriott's location is adjacent to the mall. Definitely a nice hotel. Expensive, but I was using points. I was surprised at the number of AM signals available in my room. But I attributed that to being on the 17th floor, just one down from the top. The other surprise was that I was only two doors down from the elevator, but my room was still relatively noise-free.

Fun fact: I once got snowed-in at the Eaton Centre Marriott. Biz trip in the late '90s. I finished up a lunch appointment and the snow and wind were coming fast and furious. I had parked my rental car in the hotel Garage, so rather than leave and continue my sales calls, I simply checked into the place.. It was great! I Hung up my coat, got some work done, then walked around downtown Toronto (via the skyway and underground walkway systems), had dinner, did some shopping, and got paperwork done, All without stepping outside. Then left in the morning when the storm had cleared. I don't remember if I did any DXing, but if I didn't it probably was because i wasn't in a DX-friendly room.

I take my SRF-A100 these days. Fun to DX Chicago from afar and see what else is out there out yonder.

You had a much higher room than I. The hotel-mall connection is cool. I was there way back to cover a hockey game. Easy walk to Maple Leaf Gardens. Ah, for the expense-account days!

From Alaska, on 1150.. ive heard KAGO Klamath Falls, OR KKINW Seattle, KGDD Portland and CJSL 1150 Estevan, Sask

Central Kansas:
Easily KSAL/Salina, day or night.

North Iowa:
During the day, a weak KWKY/Des Moines, though WEAQ/Chippewa Falls has come in from time to time. As for nighttime reception, I’ve not been able to ID anything.

I keep seeing WJBO coming up in this thread. I can vouch from my own experiences in Louisiana and adjacent nearby parts of the south that this station gets out very well. Definitely listenable 24/7 in an around the south. I've never heard them at or around my home location in the Chicago area, however. Before WHBY effectively took over 1150. it pretty much belonged to CKOC at night for several years.
Good ground conductivity at the JBO site. That helps a lot!!
