AM Frequency of the Week - 1160 kHz

The Herd Jepko "Night Cap" Show that ran on KSL for years got regular calls from the east coast, Alaska and Hawaii.
Even occasional calls from Europe & S. America on the "International" line.
Lots of lonely people talking about their cats & grandkids.

And DXers.

I can vouch for the fact that KSL can be heard well in Hawaii as I heard them when I was there. KSL is one of the better mainland signals in the Hawaiian Islands at night.

From NE NC. Days 1160 WOBM Lakewood, NJ mixed with WMET Gaithersburg, MD. Some days one station is stronger than the other, other days it is reversed. Nights is WYLL Chicago with WOBM some times almost as strong as WYLL. WOBM with 8.9 kW at night, has a lobe in their directional patter that favors this area. As others have mentioned, years ago, KSL was a regular at night in the Eastern US. Have not heard them in years.

^ N4GBK, have you ever caught the BBC World Service out of Bermuda on 1160 prior to sunset? I think it's still running there.

"ever caught the BBC World Service out of Bermuda on 1160 prior to sunset"..nope. I've not spent much time on 1160 so I'll check more often. Right now, just before sunset I'm hearing maybe 5 stations. WOBM from New Jersey is dominant with an interview program but the Catholic station in Maryland pops up on top sometimes. Also someone running music and somekind of foreign language in the background. - Bill

just west of Boston MA here...

Daytime - nothing

Night - I've logged the following:
WVNG Oakland NJ (most common)
WOBM Lakewood Twp NJ (2nd)
WABY Mechanicville NY (rare)

I always found it strange that there are 2 stations in New Jersey not that far from each other operating on 1160.

agreed. and looking at their night patterns side by side i'd say that there is probably a good amount of overlap from Newark due east to central long island

15 miles south of Jacksonville, FL it's semi local WEWC with Spanish programming. noise at night.
