AM Frequency of the Week: 1200

24 x 7 it's my local WOAI, whose transmitter is actually in Marion, TX, about 30 miles to my east.

I'm able to get a slight partial null aiming N-NE/S-SW, and from sunset through sunrise, some mild skywave cancellation is noticeable. During that period, underneath I can usually hear a weak XEQJAL in Jalpan de Serra, Querétaro.

Here in west Houston, WOAI is strong day and somewhat weaker at night, but always on top. I think I'm about 100 miles closer than you are to San Antonio, but a bit surprised you can't get WOAI in the daytime.

I'm ~150 miles from WOAI's tower, so would the relative weakness at night be due to cancellation at that distance?

I've heard possible Spanish under WOAI at night but have not ID'ed anything else on this frequency.

That was always my experience when I lived in Houston, both in the northwest part of the city and then down on the League City-Friendswood border. WOAI never was strong at night. Always there, but weak.
