AM Frequency of the Week: 1210

Since moving here to NE PA, it's just been WPHT day and night for me. They used to be a nice off-beat way to listen to Mets games when the Phillies and Mets played. I understand that WPHT is going to stop the baseball games soon, though.

1210 wasn't exactly a bottomless pit of DX back in the school-years DXing near JFK, either. Logged there were 'WCAU', of course ..... Radio Rebelde from Cuba ..... and a curious SSS catch when WCAU paused long enough for me to hear 'WCNT' from Centralia IL. It was dark out by me.

I say 'curious' because I wasn't much the SSS DXer; the hobby was usually AN's for me. But WADE from North Carolina and WKNX from Saginaw MI were catches for one or two of the other fellows. They were way more into the 'splits' from Europe at SSS than I ever was.

When I lived and worked in NE Philly for a few years, WCAU's stick was right across the river. I did some pretty-okay short wave DXing at the time, for some reason. And WCAU would come in on 2420, 4840, 9680, and so on.

WPHT still carries Temple football and basketball games with Harry Donahue on the call, but that's pretty much the only sports left. Phillies games are off WPHT beginning this year.
