AM Frequency of the Week - 1220 kHz

What do you all get on 1220 AM? Here in Vermilion, OH, I get WKHW/Cleveland '1220 the Word' Religious during the day with a decent signal. At night it's a jumble of stations usually with WKHW barely on top but about a month ago I heard an UNid sports station coming in on 1220 amongst the slop.

Dayton Ohio area slop from WDAO 1210 by day with WERT from Van Wert if you can get away from the slop. By night, WHKW or whatever the old WGAR is this week with others. I used to listen to WGAR in Western Ohio with a reasonable, but not overwhelming signal.

In the near north Chicago suburbs it's WKRS during the day. At night it's a mess including WKRS, Cleveland, and whatever else floats in.

Far Northwest Suburban Chicago:

Day: WKRS, Waukegan, IL. Weak...with WLPO La Salle, IL underneath

Night: Usually a mess...WKNR on top once in a while. XEB less often.

In east Texas just west of Tyler, daytime is a very weak signal from KMVL in Madisonville, mixing with their synchronized repeater, KM2XVL, a little over 25 miles down I-45 in Huntsville. (What makes this unique is that it's one of only two stations in the continental U.S. that has this sort of operation; the other one is the historic WLLH with its dual operation in Lawrence and Lowell MA).

At night it's Mexico City's XEB, with a steady, strong signal. Occasionally around sunrise and sunset a few low power stations creep in, including one from the Dallas/Fort Worth area, KZEE in Weatherford.

In Houston, XEB is dominant, with a jumble underneath.

Northern VA,

Local daytimer WFAX "Christian Radio for the Nation's Capital". At night, it's the Cleveland station. Recent midmorning hours I may have heard WGNY Newburgh, NY with an oldies song underneath WFAX.

In Bothell/Bellevue, WA it's usually nothing days and a weak KPJC Salem, OR (171w) at night, but have also heard KDOW San Jose, CA (Business News) and once caught CJRB Boissevain, Manitoba (Easy Listening/Classical).

I only get splatter from 1st adjacent, WJOB on 1230 Hammond, IN. Unless I travel up into Lake County, IL to pick up WKRS, then I get nothing, but splatter on 1220.

From Warminster PA(Philly suburbs):

Daytime: splatter from local WPHT 1210
Night: IBOC from WPHT, sometimes Cleveland(forget calls)

WHKW.

In central Ohio, IBOC hash during the day from Columbus' WYTS (1230). At night, it's a very weak WHKW if anything. They send very little signal our way day or night. I think the daytime signal is lost before Mansfield on 71.

Boise. Last night conditions were, weird. Again. Only thing there was little ol' KPJC Salem OR.
It's normally KDOW and CJOC.

CJOC is long gone on 1220 now.

Correction....

From my post a couple of days ago, I said "WKNR". I meant the Cleveland 1220. Now WHKW. I think most of you guys probably knew what I meant.

At least I didn't say WGAR. ;D
