AM Frequency of the week: 1260

40-ish miles northwest of downtown Chicago.....

Day: A very weak WEKZ from Monroe, WI. 1kw ND from 72 miles to my west-northwest.

Night: WEKZ goes to 19 watts and is totally missing. Meanwhile, WSDZ from Belleville, IL (St. Louis area) is one of the most reliable skywave signals on the former "regional" channels. Usually on top with a good signal. I've also heard WNDE from Indianapolis a number of times.

Other Location: I posted in Rich's recent thread about WFTW in Fort Walton Beach, FL and its "bright" audio.

East Tennessee: Daytime is a very weak WMCH, Church Hill TN. Nights are WNXT, Portsmouth OH. Kind of surprised I've nerver heard WNDE

In the near north Chicago suburbs during the day I hear very little. Towards critical hours WNDZ Indianapolis comes in. When I first heard Indy years ago the calls were WFBM. Belleville, Il is heard at night along with Indy mostly.

Here in Wood Dale, IL in the near NW suburb of Chicago:

Daytime: In the past WWJQ (now WPNW) - Zeeland, MI and WNDE Indianapolis , IN heard, but they are not too common
Nightime: Mostly WNDE (Indianapolis, IN), WCCR (Cleveland, OH), WSDZ (Belleville, IL)

DX/RETRO: Some of the DX catches on this frequency in the past include WCRT (Birmingham, AL), WEKZ (Monroe, WI), WGVM (Greenville, MS), CFRN (Edmonton, AB) and couple DX Test brodcasts: WDKN (Dickson, TN), WNRK (Newark, DE)

In the far-more-casual DX days here in NE PA:

In the daytime, nothing here really, especially nowadays with all the racket. One late afternoon in August I got WBUD Trenton NJ.
Ditto -- late afternoon but in February -- in came a surprise : The now-dark WNRK Newark DE. Those two catches I have taped.

Nighttime I've heard WRC Washington (formerly WWDC), and WNDR Syracuse. WNDR was taped.

* * * * * * *

In the JFK Airport DXing days, I never heard WNRK from 'New-ARC' DE, and WBUD was only heard once. It usually was WBNR Beacon NY and WMMM Westport CT dueling it out in the day. Feebly.
There were some six SSS catches, though. Makes me think that 1260 out here, in the newer digs, would be just as generous.
Add Radio Paradise 1265 to that JFK list, if that's fair. The closest local station in NYC (1280 WADO) wound sign off on Monday mornings, leaving the entire NYC space between 1130 and 1330 as anyone's fishing spot.
