AM Frequency of the week: 1360

In another thread we've been talking about WMOB getting out a LOT better at night that it should be. So let's start the New Year off by staying on 1360. What do you USUALLY get when your AM radio dial is set to 1360?

Here 40-odd miles northwest of Chicago, it's semi-local WLBK from De Kalb, IL days with a fair-good signal. Nights, its usually a mess, with WTAQ (Green Bay) emerging on top from time to time. Years ago, WTAQ (as WGEE) was basically a nighttime regular here.

Daytime on 1360 in Yakima is semi-local KOHU Hermiston, OR with classic country music.
Nights is a mess, mostly KKMO Tacoma (Regional Mexican) is dominate but others can pop up here and there. KUIK Hillsboro, OR (News/Talk/Sports) sometimes shows up, as is KHNC Johnstown, CO (Talk). KRKK Rock Springs, WY (News/Talk) is much rarer, but I've heard them. To the south, I've heard KFIV Modesto (News/Talk) and in October, confirmed KWDJ Ridgecrest, CA (Adult Contemporary) with an ID, presumed day power. And one time, I did pick up religious programming and SRN news - was it WMOB AL? Nah, it was just KPXQ Phoenix, AZ - only heard once about 5-6 years ago and never heard again.

On the "Would love to hear" list: KLSD San Diego, and KKBJ Bemidji MN. KLSD has been logged in British Columbia before, surprised I haven't gotten it yet.

In the near north Chicago suburbs it's also a weak WLBK during the day. I haven't listened to this frequency much at night, but in the past it was Green Bay here also.

The closest local is also the loudest here. That's WPPA Pottsville. By day they're a mildly east-west 5000 watts. At night they vanish almost utterly because they power down to 500 watts and send most of that south. Also, they pull it in tight, away from Hartford and Cincinnati. As a result, of course, I've gotten both WDRC and WSAI while WPPA was on.

One early afternoon, though -- I forget the season -- I got one of those great nulls on them and heard a faint foreign language station in the void. Never IDed it.

Also at night, I have (taped) a WASA// , from 6-18-95. At the time WASA was on 1330 as well. I never found out what the // station's calls were ; Dundalk/Baltimore had a WEBB there for the longest time. Not just that, but now there is no more 1360 in Baltimore but instead a 1370 licensed to Pikesville MD, and it shoots its signal right at downtown Baltimore -- from what appears to be two different sites.

And there's the ever-popular WMOB , logged in March 2013, the first time around for it's delinquency.

For Steven Green in NEPA.

For that station in a foreign language you heard one afternoon, if the language was Spanish you may have picked up WNJC. They are an AM Stand Alone at 1360 in Washington Twp., Gloucester County, NJ. They're about 12-15 miles south of Philly and have been carrying brokered programming for nearly 20 years.
