AM Frequency of the Week - 1400 kHz

In Durham, North Carolina, 1400 kHz can be tricky due to local WRJD 1410 "Poder 1410", but their signal is so directional, your best bet is north of the city in the daytime, where you'll hear WAJL, South Boston, Va, about 40 miles up US 501.

At night, it's a mismash of sound I've never picked anything out of.

I'm surprised you haven't heard WCYN in Cynthiana KY. I'm able to get it (though weak) days on the west side of Cinti.
 
NE NC 1400 WPCE Portsmouth, VA days. They have terrible audio. Sounds like transmitter problems but has been that way for months. Nights and critical hours is typical GY. Nothing ID on car radio.
 
In Bellingham WA:

Days - Splatter from CFTE 1410 Vancouver (Sports)

Nights - Just a graveyard roar, with some CFTE splatter. Once caught an ID for KRPL, Moscow, ID over it....
 
In Memphis daytime it's KWYN from Wynne, AR.

Nighttime it's a mess. Can't say I've ever ID'd anything.

I took a ride today through the Cincinnati area and monitored 1400Khz. I received WCYN in Northern KY up to about Florence without significant interference from WLW's harmonic. North of downtown Cincinnati, WLW's harmonic dominated the frequency. Within 5 miles of their tower, harmonics of WLW's IBOC can be heard on 1380-1390 and 1410-1420. I'm curious if their digital signal will lock on 1400 when near their tower. I'll have to try it with my other car that has an HD radio. At night, WLW's harmonic is buried in the graveyard mess at 5-10 miles from their tower.
