Let's go up the dial this week and stop at 1430. What are you hearing there?
For me in the far northwest suburbs of the windy city, daytime it's a weak WEEF from Highland Park, IL mixing with an even weaker WCMY from Ottawa, IL. WEEF is one of a couple of directional rimshot AM stations located just north of Chicago that dumps most of its signal (1,600 watts) right into Lake Michigan. Meanwhile, WCMY is a standard-issue 500-watt non-directional....situated about 75 miles west-southwest of the city. They were on 1430 before WEEF showed up in the 1960s.
Nights: Used to be a battle between WIL in St. Louis and WIRE in Indianapolis. WIL eventually morphed into KZQZ and went to 50kw daytime, which means it's common around sunrise and sunset. At night, it's back to 5kw, but still a fairly easy catch and on top more often than Indy....which is now WXNT. Both stations' night patterns night patterns are favorable in my direction. WXNT perhaps more so, but for some reason is now usually "second banana". "Way back when" Tulsa (as KELI) used to also turn up every so often.
