AM Frequency of the Week: 1520

That is correct. You could probably dig deep enough in the archives to see discussions of what a pit WHOW was
In west Houston, local daytimer KYND is back on the air with Esne Spanish religion. After they sign off, it's mostly all KOKC. I've heard KRHW once or twice and have heard something very weak in the background (maybe KFXZ) but haven't ID'd. With KOKC on 10kw, it's kind of surprising that nothing else breaks through.
When I was first DXing from Tulsa back in the early 70's, I could hear KOMA (and their Top 40 rival WKY) fairly well during the day. KOMA's signal was very weak at night, presumably due to the their null to the NE and maybe cancellation (I was 110 miles NE of their towers). Conversely, my cousins, 325 miles SW of their towers, all had KOMA car radio presets.

Figured to do some 'retro' 1520 stuff on this thread, after having seen that KQRR mention on another thread. Plus a punch line:
This recall is from 1520.
Back near JFK Airport in Queens NYC one Monday Morning maybe 1966, I was on 1520. I heard faint mentions of 'Kim Radio', which was playing pop music. Real faint but readable.
Then I heard a time check that was three hours' off from my EST, and even a mention of Oregon. The tattered White's Radio listed a KYMN Oregon City as a neat likelihood. It certainly wasn't 'KB or KOMO.
Punch line : My buddy was listening too, like me, a vagabond high school DXer who also slept completely through MM assembly period in school. He lived 4 blocks west of me. But he was on 1510 ar the same time-- one frequency away -- and getting what he later determined was 2NA New Castle Australia!
That must've been one heck of a friendly pile of propagation at work.
Oddly, Vinny never logged Oregon. And for some inexplicable reason, I never heard Australia on AM.
The dial was so much emptier then. And music DJs had to talk and ID after every song.

Days::: 5kW KMPG, out of Hollister.
Nights::Last night I heard "Red Eye Radio", that I never heard before. I'm thinking KOKC is back to full power. Yes? Does anyone know? If so, I welcome them to the west coast again. Its been a long time waiting. Maybe they were doing some testing, as the signal faded after a time, but it was quite good there for a while until it faded. I'll try again tonight at around 1:30am, and see if that was them.
In the mud, I usually get a very weak 1kW KKCC, Oxnard.
Additionally, I will sometimes hear KKXA, from the north (Seattle).
