AM Frequency of the Week: 1560

From NW San Antonio:

Day: A very weak and fluttery KGOW. Whenever there's daytime skywave, KGOW has a listenable signal.

Sunset: KGOW comes up fairly strong. Aiming northeast, I can null it somewhat and hear KTXZ for a bit. Occasionally, classic country daytimer KHBR will pop up.

Night: At times there is heavy splatter from 1570 XERF. Otherwise, KGOW is strong, especially when aiming east, although it has a bit of skywave/groundwave cancellation at times. To the northeast, KEBC in Dell City, OK (The Franchise), can be heard from time to time and KTXZ will make the odd brief appearance. To the northwest, XEJPV in Ciudad Juárez is often in/out with classic hits music and W Radio talk until it signs off around 11 p.m. CT.

Sunrise: The XERF splatter continues, and KGOW still dominates. KEBC and especially XEJPV are stronger once they go to day power/pattern. KTXZ is regularly heard when it powers up, and KHBR sometimes pops in once it signs on.

DX/Retro: A few times I've heard a very weak KNZR in Bakersfield, CA, and I got a station ID once. Also, I've heard KZQQ in Abilene just a couple of times around sunrise. In past years I heard XEMAS in Salamanca occasionally at night, but it doesn't seem to be on the air any more.

Chatham, IL (12 miles southwest of Springfield)

--Day: Extremely weak remnants of WBYS Canton, IL. WBYS can be a little more robust and identifiable once you get north of the Illinois State Capitol complex in Springfield.
