AM Frequency of the week: 1650

Halfway through the X band and stop this week at 1650.

Far northwest suburban Chicago.....

Days: 1650 is usually empty. In winter, a couple of times, I have hear KCNZ (Cedar Falls, Iowa) via daytime skywave.

Nights: Usually a fair signal from KCNZ. Sometimes weaker, sometimes stronger. As often as not I hear a weak signal or two underneath, which I've not been able to identify.

In the near north Chicago suburbs during the day nothing. In winter KCNZ daytime skywave--usually weak.
At night KCNZ--fair & possibly CINA weak underneath.

Days - nothing
Nights - KBJD Denver (Radio Luz), KFOX Torrance CA (Korean) are the two common ones. Occasionally I'll hear a NOAA/ODOT TIS from Astoria, Oregon mixing with KFOX. I've also heard at least three WA TIS stations - all western Washington stations.
KYHN Fort Smith AR (now KFSW) was heard in 2014, and relogged once or twice since. They used to be news/talk, now Christian music. KCNZ Cedar Falls IA (Sports) is rare but also logged here.

The one station I really need here is KSVE El Paso (ESPN Deportes). Boombox4 has heard them up in western WA. But never logged here! WHKT would also be awesome (and I've heard 1660 Charlotte before), but quite impossible even with good conditions.

Here in Wood Dale, IL in the near NW suburb of Chicago:

Daytime: usually empty, but did hear the Evanston, IL TIS (WPXZ497) couple of times
Nightime: usually KCZN

DX/RETRO: did hear KGXL (Costa Mesa, CA) back in 1998. They are now KFOX with Korean language programming, but no luck yet. Also heard KBJD (Denver, CO), KWHN (ft. Smith, AR), WHKT (Portsmouth, VA) and CINA (Mississague, ON). Also back in early 2000's the Aurora, IL HAR/TIS with Chicago weather forecasts used to be common, but not heard lately.

I've heard every station Crainbebo mentions -- not sure how many different TIS's I've heard. Mainly NOAA snippets.

I did hear KSVE El Paso one grainy early morning with Deportes. That was cool.

It was a tough catch. Had to null out something. Probably KBJD? It was in 2013-2014 or so, when overall MWDX conditions were better.

Most nights I hear KBJD or the Korean station in LA, which often peaks after they crank up the power around 5-6 am or so. And very weak NOAA TIS's.

Orange County, TX: Days-nothing, Nights a weak KSVE, El Paso, TX mixing with weak music and another Spanish language.

1650 is dead here both days & nights. There's something there but it's waaay down in the noise- unintelligible. This frequency is probably available for this market.
