AM Frequency of the Week: 530 KHz

at night up here just north of Dallas in Mckinney, TX

daytime, Nada
Nightime Its The Cuban station ll the way, no fading, no interference.

I find it a good listen whilst drifting to sleep.

Nothing here during the day...all CIAO at night.

Most of our TISes, at least in this part of Northeast Ohio, are at the high end of the AM band. I didn't know there was a 530 up in Lorain County.

Darthvader,

The "690" station from Ridgefield you were talking about on 530 is WPVS690, just to let you know.

In Mount Vernon, WA, there's a station called KBRC at 1430 kHz. But they retuned their off-carrier (whatever it's called) from 715 kHz (to protect KIRO Seattle at 710) to the 530 kHz area. So you'll hear KBRC on 1430, and a weaker "simulcast" at 530 kHz.....

I've always had a tough time hearing anything at night on 530 here in central Ohio. But when I lived in Texas, it was always Cuba or Turks. I remember visiting central Florida in 2009 (specifically the Merritt Island area) and hearing music on 530 pretty clearly around 1 p.m. one afternoon. Never knew what station though. Cuba would have been a hell of a catch considering it was about 300 miles south as the crow flies.

From Germantown, Maryland...

Daytime - a faint splatter from 570 WSPZ. The transmitter is about 2 air miles from me.

Nights - The lovely elevator music from Cuba (?)

530 here is the TIS from downtown. It is supposed to play traffic info from the City of Charleston Police, but it rarely works now. It's been around for many years. There's dozens of blue signs around the area that show "Traffic Info: Turn to 530 AM". Normally, it just plays NOAA Weather Radio.

At night it's Turks and Caicos or Cuba.

In Sarasota, Cuba on 530 sounds equally good day and night. No problem believing it comes in good in the area you visited as well...the sucker gets out very well....at least when you're somewhere near the water.

Aside.....I myself would like to hear from more folks living along the Gulf Coast, like from south of Tallahassee, west to Mobile/Pensacola/Biloxi/New Orleans/Houston/Corpus Christi/Brownsville.....Just curious if anyone along there hears Radio Enciclopedia in the daytime, and how it sounds.

R.E. is a car preset of mine here! :)

As stated previously, Cuba is audible day/night on 530 where I am this week on the Gulf at the AL-FL state line. Daytime signal is very weak in the gulf front condo, but just does just fine on a good car radio (away from noise sources). The daytime signal penetrates a couple of miles inland. Cuba is also audible here daytime to one degree or another on 570, 640, 670, 710, 790, 890, and 950.

SW Ohio

Days KIH42 NOAA weather station in Covington (across the river from Cincinnati), KY
Nights Cuba, Canada & NOAA weather very weak.
