AM Frequency of the Week: 560

KLVI comes in here on occasion, but very weak. It's usually better in my car radio closer to Waco, TX, than here on my Grundig Yachtboy.

Don't generally receive any other stations here in central TX, but will check this frequency more often and try to null the ineffectual KLVI.

Springfield, MA

Day - WHYN-AM
Night - WHYN-AM, but I can hear a station under at times if I null them, possibly WFIL.

From the southwest suburbs of Chicago ...

Nothing new on 560 since the previous lap:

WIND Chicago; WFIL Philadelphia; KLVI Beaumont, Tex.; KLZ Denver; and KWYO Springfield, Mo. As I recall, all the out-of-towners were heard on Monday mornings, after WIND played "The Whiffenpoof Song" at 2 a.m. and shut down until morning.

During the day, use to receive KWTO-Springfield MO in Topeka, KS, in the 1990s. It came in well. Can't recall nighttime reception.

And we have a thread on 560 AM San Francisco being renamed as KZAC because 810 AM took the KSFO Call letters and removed the KGO call letters for obvious reasons like KGO is more known for being associated with the Disney owned ABC TV affiliate in the Bay Area.

Amazingly, KLVI came in crystal clear tonight, after sunset, totally dark, here in the Austin area.

The other morning, KWTO came in strong. Recognized the area codes and Springfield MO places mentioned.

KLVI is a given, though it's usually weak, but capturing KWTO was a real treat, like how I recently (weakly) heard a KFRM ID on 550, a feat I haven't repeated.

The other night late at night, was able to capture KLZ-Denver, 785 miles.
It wasn't strong, and was very hard to discern, but matched it with its Salem satellite feed. It disappeared quickly.

This was a good catch as it was a first for me.

In Northern New England, 560 CFOS Owen Sound, Ontario is an easy catch at night, during late November, December & January.. They play oldies, sometimes standards. CFOS is reported to run 7500 watts day, 1000 watts night, I'm sure directional.. I know 560 CFOS got approved to move over to the FM band.. Hear it while you can !

A weak signal of WHYN-AM 560 from Springfield, MA in southern Hartford County, CT. I think their transmitter is on Mount Tom in Holyoke, MA (their FM 93.1 signal is there).

Do you ever hear Portland's WGAN as well?
