AM Frequency of the week: 640

From NW San Antonio:

Day: Just heavy splatter from local 630 KSLR.

Sunset: Aiming NE I can hear KWPN and WCRV amidst the splatter. Aiming SE I can hear Radio Progreso.

Night: When KSLR drops to night power/pattern, KWPN is dominant to the NE/SW with XENQ in Tulancingo and XETAM in Ciudad Victoria (to a lesser extent) underneath and occasionally mixing in. In the opposite direction, Radio Progreso is dominant with XEJUA in Ciudad JuƔrez sometimes mixing in.

Sunrise: To the NE, WCRV is back and dominant when it goes to day power but is eventually taken over by KWPN. To the NW KFI is often in with a decent signal. Once KSLR goes back to day power/pattern, only KWPN remains.

DX/RETRO: I heard WBIN once, a few years back when it was WGST.

WOI, all night and all day! At night, WOI is down to about 1,000 watts, which is enough of a reduction to pick up KWPN from Oklahoma City sometimes underneath WOI. Still haven't gotten WMFN at my place, I don't think. But about 100 miles east of here, it's a pretty strong signal.

From now-thawed west Houston, days is splatter from local 650 KIKK. I once heard KWPN at midday in the winter thanks to daytime skywave. At sunset, WCRV and KWPN are both there, with WCRV usually dominant. The Cuban is also usually in there somewhere. At night, Cuba usually dominates with KWPN and other SS (presumed the Mexicans Jim mentioned, but haven't ID'd any of them yet). At sunrise it's WCRV and KWPN until KIKK powers up. I've heard hints of KFI but never certain.

From Jackson, MS all I get is WCRV in Tennessee during the day and Cuban and various other slop at night.

I know I've told this before in another thread somewhere but before they were Christian talk 640 in Memphis was WMSO and had a CCM format, which I listened to at the time. I was talking to someone about the station once and she said she liked the music in the daytime but she didn't like it when they switched to Spanish at night, not knowing that WMSO turned their power down at night and that it was the Cuban station coming in instead. 😁

Days:::With the PK loop before 1pm, I can still hear modulation from KFI ( very very weak ). I can not understand what is being said, but the modulation can be heard.

Nights::KFI with the occasional fade, but still a very good signal. I do hear Latin/Spanish music underneath it, sometimes. I wish I knew where it was coming from.

Coastal Alabama:

Days, sometimes a very weak KTIB Thibodaux, Louisiana… it's better the closer to the Gulf you get.

At night, it's a darn-near 50/50 mix of Progreso from Cuba and WBIN (ex-WGST) from Atlanta. I've also heard WCRV occasionally around sunset. That station has a massive daytime coverage footprint.
