AM Frequency of the Week - 750 kHz

What can you get on 750 AM?

In Vermilion, OH, 750 days is nothing but slop from WJR 760 which comes in every bit as strong as WTAM 1100. Around sunset I start hearing WSB/Atlanta, GA which comes in even stronger into the night, with less WJR slop.

Usually, days I get KXTG Portland [Sports] very weak.

Nights usually bring
KXL
KERR Polson, MT [C&W, sunset and sometimes night]
CKJH Melfort, SK [Classic Hits]
KOAL Price, UT [News/Talk]
KHWG Fallon, NV [heard a few times when they left the day power on]

-crainbebo

Near north Chicago suburbs it's WNDZ Portage, Indiana daytime and at night WSB. Sometimes at night I can hear Spanish underneath WSB which I think is Colombia.

Nothing by day here in Rochester NY, and of course WSB at night. Sometimes WPDX from WV sneaks in around sunrise/sunset, and I used to hear Timmins, Ontario before it went to FM.

Whether I'm in Gary, Chesterton, Portage, Michigan City, or even down in Rensselaer in Indiana, Chicago, or even up in Milwaukee, I get WNDZ Portage, IN during daytime hours. After signoff, I get WSB Atlanta.

In Niles, OH I can get WSB from Atlanta and at times before and slightly after sunset I hear another station in the background but haven't been able to identify it.

In Marietta, GA (12 mi NW of downtown Atlanta) of course it's WSB but there are occasions when I also hear a Spanish station underneath them. Not sure where they are located but perhaps David Eduardo does.

Northern VA,

Baltimore's WBMD with a fairly weak signal. At night, it's WSB, also underneath the Atlanta station is what I think is Radio Progreso.

SW Ohio

Days
Nothing - Carryover from our local, 740/WNOP

Nights
WSB Atlanta - Never an easy listen at my home location, thanks to the 30 watt directional signal from 740/WNOP. Their weaker lobe is aimed right at me, and I am just a few miles from their transmitter. Plus, WNOP's transmitter site is directly between me and WSB. Of course, I probably wouln'nt listen to WSB even if it was a clean signal. ;D

From NE NC car radio. Mid days nothing heard. Sunset is WAUG Raleigh, NC and WBMD Baltimore, MD. Nights is all WSB.

Charleston, daytime usually nothing except weak WSB during winter, and only certain days. Nighttime and critical hours, WSB with Radio Progreso under.

Far northwest suburban Chicago...

Days: WNDZ fair.
Nights: WSB usually good. Occasionally, there seems to be something underneath, but I can't identify.

From West Michigan, the regulars are WNDZ days / WSB nights. Others I've been able to pull in (with careful phasing of WSB):

WARD Petoskey, MI. (heard only once)
WTQH Brookport, IL. (cheating at night)
KBNN Lebanon, MO.
CKJH Melfort, SK. @ 1065 miles
XETI Mexico @ 1653 miles
KHWG Fallon, NV. @ 1701 miles (likely cheating on day pattern though they denied it when I inquired)
XECSI Mexico @ 1747 miles
Radio Caracas @ 2534 miles occasionally during auroral conditions

Here in central Ohio, nothing daytime and usually a pretty strong WSB at night. I don't stop to listen to WSB much since it no longer has the Braves, but I think I recall hearing the Spanish-language blaster from South America one night several years during an Aurora (I'm thinking 2003 or 2004).
When I lived in Houston, WSB always was present despite KTRH's massive slop in my area. I lived pretty much in the heart of their very powerful nighttime lobe (125K ERP or so coming at me from 30 miles north). Sort of the same when I was in Toledo, but the slop wasn't as bad from WJR. WSB was still pretty listenable, as was WABC on the other side (partly because Detroit and New York are different directions).

Yet another credit to WSB's epically horrid groundwave signal!

Being 10 miles as the crow flies from their stick, it's a completely noise free WSB 24/7. ;D

WSB's daytime signal is only good for about 200-220 miles. WSB's nightime cancellation zone basically starts about 50-60 miles out from the city, and goes to about 150-175 miles out. Beyond that, it's usually dependable. For the most part, I've been able to pick it up at night just about anywhere east of the front range of the Rockies that I have tried to pick it up with varying degrees of strenght. Based on my experiences, WSB seems to actually come in better in many parts of the Midwest than it does in some parts of the South. I guess that's attributed to the superior ground conductivity of the Midwest. To piggyback off of what schmave stated, WSB is surprisingly listenable in the Detroit metro, even with WJR's slop. When I lived in the northern suburbs of Detroit in the mid 80's, I used to listen to Braves games all the time coming home from work. Outside of the slop, it was a fairly strong, dependable signal most every night.
