AM Frequency of the Week: 860

From south Overland Park, Kansas:

Day: A very listenable 10 kW non-directional KKOW in Pittsburg, Kansas. However, when they switch to their 5 kW 3-tower directional nighttime pattern - poof! They are gone.

Night: CJBC is at times listenable. However, usually nothing identifiable.

Bob
Think I heard 860 KKOW here, north of Austin, TX, the other night/ late afternoon.
Was classic country.

After the that last Spanish format; (believe that lasted about 3 years; could be wrong); it became WGUL, with SeaGULs sound in the background of many of their liners and it was an easylistening/nostalgia format and in AM stereo and that lasted about a decade or longer; then the local owners sold out to Salem; at that point I quit listening, except to check the frequency from time to time when doing a AM dial scan. If my current plans go through, I will be in Warwick RI about 6 days and I'm sure that the 860 from Toronto will either be strong at night or at least there.
WGUL is an ideologue station. Caters to Angry White Men Radio, a very narrow and limited radio format, given the demographics of the U.S.
I don't listen either.

White Angry Men Radio - - hmm- maybe a suggested set of call letters for one of the Salem station…..WAMR— just realized, those calls are no longer assigned to i-Heart’s Venice station at 1320; so those calls are available for either 930 or 860!

As obnoxious as Salem’s programming on WGUL and Sarasota’s WLSS is….it seems to be all Salem does or knows how to do; their 570 and 910 programming are just as bad, but I suppose there are a few hundred people listening at any given time in the St. Pete/Tampa and Sarasota/Bradenton markets.

When in Warwick RI this past August; it was nice, not to hear quite as much of that ideologue programming; at night 860 was in fact the French CBC from Toronto, a good signal at night and 740 was the Zoomer radio out of Toronto and WINS 1010 was listenable day and night; WCBS-880 was only listenable during the day and at night had some cancellation issues, but it seemed strange not to hear all the stations out of Cuba.
