AM Frequency of the Week - 960 kHz

What do you all get on AM 960?

Here in Vermilion, OH it's mostly IBOC from WWJ 950 days with WKVX/Wooster, OH underneath with oldies. Nights is kind of a mess under WWJ's IBOC with WFIR usually on top

In St. Louis, KZIM Cape Girardeau, MO can be heard in the distance. At night, I have heard KMA, Shenandoah, IA, and WABG Greenwood, MS.

Far northwest suburbs of Chicago....

Days: 960 is usually blank, sandwiched between fair signals (at best) from WNTD (950,Chicago) and WHA (970, Madison). However, a couple of weeks ago, I was fooling around with the GE Superadio II and was hearing WDLM from East Moline, IL. First time ever for that one. About 125 miles away. 1kw but directional north-south...not my direction. I'm not sure if there was daytime skywave, pattern out of whack, or just the Superadio doing its thing.

Nights: Usually a mess. I've heard KMA from Shennandoah, IA a couple of times after dark, and WSBT from South Bend, IN several times around sunset. The prize catch for me, by my standards anyway, has been CFAC from Calgary, which was comfortably on top a few times two winters ago.

Near north Chicago suburbs I hear WSBT weak to moderate during the day & at night more of a mess including WSBT and sometimes KMA.

WQLA, LaFollette, TN from East Tennessee by day, WERC among others by night

Dayton sometimes could be WSBT by night, often WFIR

960 here is KALE Richland, WA by day (Country Legends 960) and at night is usually CFAC Calgary, AB (Sports), KALE, and KLAD Klamath Falls, OR (Sports again).
Other logs: KNEW Oakland, CA (very rarely with talk programming, usually via auroral condx), KOVO Provo, UT (// KZNS-1280 sports, heard rarely at sunset) and a one-time log of KNEB Scottsbluff, NE at sunrise with Nebraska farm news and Scottsbluff ads. Have a tentative on KSRA Salmon, ID as well - but not IDed. Still trying, hard, for KFLN MT.

That CFAC really used to get out back in the day, Crain. Perhaps they still do. They were a pretty faithful AN catch when our bunch used to DX from Long Island.

Daytimes here in NE PA:
WHYL Carlisle PA is pretty darned near car radio fare, despite being 60+ miles off. I never heard them at their 22-watt nighttime power.
WPMR Mt. Pocono, for an aggravatingly long stretch of tune, was my closest unheard. I'm exactly co-linear between them and Carlisle, away from which WPMR pulls it in. Not being able to log a station in one's own area code is a resounding insult to any DXer's self esteem. But before they went dark, I finally got them -- at night! They were simulcasting WSBG 93.5's Hot A/C.

Sunset and nighttime catches here have been
WELI New Haven, WFIR Roanoke, and the most recent one from just a week ago.
WEAV 960 from Plattsburg NY was coming in, on the car radio, very well, on a trip into town. As part of the Boston Celtics Network, they were simulcasting WBZ-FM, hence the many mentions of '98.5'. WEAV also carried NBC Sports at the TOH.

From south-central Colorado: Absolutely nothing days. At night, there's a mix of KNEB Scottsbluff, KKNT (oh, those call letters!) Phoenix, KMA-Iowa, KGKL-TX, KOVO-UT etc. CFAC heard maybe once or twice. KNDN-NM heard around sunset with their Native American programming. My logs also show South Bend, IN and Birmingham, AL a VERY long time ago...probably on a Monday morning when the usual suspects signed off the air.

In eastern Iowa: Daytime, WDLM East Moline, IL. Nighttime, usually KMA Shenandoah, IA, occasionally CFAC Calgary, AB, and rarely WSBT South Bend, IN.
