Did you ever drive through the Root River valley around Rushford and Houston, MN? If my memory serves, that area is like a black hole of ground conductivity where few stations are even listenable. Remarkable if I’m remember correctly.
Never drove though there. But I did work with a guy who had worked at KFIL, which I believe was in Rushford. 1kw on 1060 IIRC. They got out better than anything else in that immediate area. Which wasn't saying much!
 
South Mississippi:

Day: nothing
Night: mostly WGTK Louisville - 970 The Answer
sometimes KSYL Alexandria, LA - Talk Radio 970
 
Here's R-L's take. Which pretty much fits how I remember their signal. Their actually in Preston, Minnesota, which is near Rushford in the same county. The coverage map clearly reflects the ground differential I mentioned earlier. Drops of radically in the unglaciated (and very scenic) area near the Mississippi and becomes fantastic in the deep black soil to points west.
