I wonder if we'll make it to 75 pages before New Year's Day?

Edit to add: Oops. 8)
Maybe...

Page 75 post: IF your HD station hasn't shutdown yet, then anybody want to buy a new open box HD tuner?
RatShack Auvio = twin to the BestBest unit with optical output, pretty blue display, loop & FM wires, remote, box with slight indentation only.
If 'for sales' aren't allowed, then I appologize and as you to please delete this post.
Happy New Year everybody.

I hope that's not premature. It appears somebody must be reading the boards, here. It is back on. Albeit, not operating properly.

If it started to fail, it seems coincidental it happened now.

But, champagne is something that should be enjoyed more than once.

This thread needs to continue until EVERY AM station is restored to its former IBOC-free analog, great sounding, hiss-free awesomeness. Only then can we put this long, entertaining and informative thread to rest!

Never say die! I too look forward to the day when there are 0 A.M. hashmakers!

WHJJ/920 has had it off the past few days but as they are owned by C.C., it's probably temporary.

It is AM's version of a bad dream brought to you by a bizarro world of unelected incompetent beaurocrats appointed by both political parties.

(iPad doesn't know how to spell it, either)

Radio Disney in Chicago had theirs off for a few days last week, but it's back on again. I could tell immediately just by listening to the station that it was off without even tuning off to the adjacent channels to check the hiss. The audio sounded so much smoother and it had more high end.

Why do people do this to themselves? It makes AM radio sound so awful!

WBBM AM sounds worse than ever and is splattering over 6 channels. A tragedy that this is allowed by the FCC.

When will this nightmare ever go away?

CBS radio continues as the biggest polluter of the airwaves, coast to coast!

The most recent AM station to drop IBOC: 1560 WQEW, the New York City "Radio Disney" affiliate. A week ago I noticed their analog signal sounded a little cleaner than usual, but didn't think much of it. Today I finally gave them a close listen, and WQEW definitely has their HD Radio signal turned off. Unfortunately their analog audio is still restricted to 5 kHz bandwidth, which sounds terrible for a music station. At least there's no more constant hiss in the background, but they really should fire up their C-Quam exciter and return to AM Stereo with full NRSC bandwidth!

During the last few days while checking out the ionization/solar radiation effects on mediumwave,
I noticed another station where iboc has been consistent, but now gone.

WTMJ 620 in Milwaukee was one of the saddest sounding iboc AMs, and they never did seem to
make any adjustments to their analog audio to perk up the intellligibility.

They seem to be back to clean AM with no whiskers. :)

I just checked and WTMJ still has IBOC sidebands. Maybe it's a little cleaner than it was, but IBOC is costing that station a lot in terms of audio punch and coverage, not to mention electricity. They should get smart and turn it off-- permanently. So should WBBM.

Must have been one of the rare moments they've had it off that I was looking, last night on the way to work.
We'll see how it compares tonight.

WQEW's iboc was still off last night and they do sound much cleaner, anything is better than they way they sounded before.

WTAG 580's i-block is also off this morning but it comes and goes quite a bit on that station.

KFI (640 Los Angeles) has had theirs off for a couple days and as I type this I'm listening to John & Ken and the sound is so much cleaner in Menifee (between Perris & Temecula on the 215).

It sounds so good I'm not in any way tempted to turn on I heart radio. :D

You could listen to the WCFS-FM simulcast if the HD is muddling the sound quality and splattering on the adjacents.  When I was visiting S.F., I listen to KFRC-FM in the bay.  Past Morgan Hill or Gilroy, I switch to the AM if the FM station degrades significantly.

HD doesn't do as much damage on FM as it does on AM.
