God knows why. 98.1 HD3 has better sound and a more stable signal for anyone with an HD radio.I just noticed today that WPHT is transmitting an HD Radio signal again.

I suppose the theory is that if people with an HD receiver (admittedly, not that many) are tuning into 1210 AM (admittedly, even fewer), they would appreciate the static-free sound and probably don't even know that it can also be heard on 98.1 HD3. Of course, the listeners they do have are mostly prehistoric, so they won't likely have an HD receiver or even know what HD is.God knows why. 98.1 HD3 has better sound and a more stable signal for anyone with an HD radio.
Wouldn’t their 50,000 watt AM (HD) signal reach a much wider geographical area than WOGL HD-3? Although not as wide as streaming through the website or app.God knows why. 98.1 HD3 has better sound and a more stable signal for anyone with an HD radio.
The HD is running at a fraction of 50,000 watts and cuts out when you drive under a bridge. Only the analog runs at 50,000 watts and does reach a wider geographical area.Wouldn’t their 50,000 watt AM (HD) signal reach a much wider geographical area than WOGL HD-3? None in Philadelphia. There are a few distant HD stations you could receive in Philly: 820 WWFD (Frederick MD/Washington DC - all digital), 600 WCAO (Baltimore) - yes, this one is still on as of 3/21, 810 WGY (Albany NY), WFAS 1230 (White Plains NY/Hudson Valley) and 1080 WTIC (Hartford CT). Farther stations: WWJ 950 (Detroit MI) and WOWO 1190 (Fort Wayne IN).
HDRadio.com isn't reliable, which is why I made my own HD directory here: https://hddirectory.neocities.org/ (https://hddirectory.neocities.org/mobile.html for mobile).
The AM, way up on 1210 (the highest old 1-A clear channel frequency) has miserable coverage. The 5 kw Philly stations on 560 and 610 have better daytime coverage. So even an HD channel may be better at overcoming local man-made noise that affects AMs severely.Wouldn’t their 50,000 watt AM (HD) signal reach a much wider geographical area than WOGL HD-3? The HD signal is digital. 50 kw in analog is not the same as 50 kw digital... you need much less digital power than analog. The HD is running at a fraction of 50,000 watts and cuts out when you drive under a bridge. Only the analog runs at 50,000 watts and does reach a wider geographical area.
