Am I correct?

WQXR 1560 NYC - sounded great- they were mostly Kahn, but I believe that they did eventually revert to CQUAM and then theyy shut it off when they sold out to Radio Disney (which makes no sense as most 80s/90s Chrysler minivans had CQUAM) and the soccer Moms had Radio Disney tuned in on the minivan - so why not leave the stereo on - there was no distance penalty like FM stereo?
WSM sounded fantastic. WJR sounded fantastic. CKLW was unbelievably great-sounding. (last two thanks to Ed B.)

Not top 50 markets, but CFCO and KCJJ both still sound great today in AM Stereo from many miles away.

Here's the main difference, I was hundreds of miles away from these CQUAM stations, and yet I could hear the Grand Ole Opry in sweet stereo sound via skywave. HD-AM meanwhile can't even get the same distance as the analog.

IF HD was to be a winner, it would EXTEND the range of the analog host station, not be less than. If it wasn't for the HD-2 and HD-3 on the FM's, it wouldn't even be on the radar. They've got to figure out how to actually out-distance the analog with the digital!

Which one of the Chicago stations is still running C-QUAM at night? WGN? WLS? I forget which.

They probably installed it back in the 80's and it's doing nighttime duty, I'd say they got a return on that even if no one can hear it on new radios now.

WLS-AM now runs CQUAM 24/7; they were running HD days and CQuam nights when Citadel gave them the word, then totally shut-off the HD and run CQuam all the time!
The back-up transmitters at WGN, WSM and WBZ still have CQuam in them, and still 'light the ST light' and WBZ even had some nice stereo spots too when the nice clean-sounding back-up is in use.
