AM List Question ; Battery Question

How do the Big Yellow Taxi lyrics go .... 'You don't know what you've got til it's gone ....' ?

Am having problems bringing up Radio-Locator to search for a station. The error message says something to the effect that I've 'lost my cookies', and isn't available. I don't know how long this condition will be.

Are there other on-line resources for AM station listings? It'd be nice to have a backup anyway.

2nd question :
I have two GE Superadios -- the II and the III, plus the Grundig S450. But most of ther time I only have one set of batteries between the three radios. If I keep batteries in one of them and have it plugged in the wall, do the batteries re-charge?

It's not just you, it's down for everybody. I was under the impression that it was no longer operating with any purpose and had been put into autopilot to process FCC updates but nothing else. Maybe it's finally been turned off.

The FCC has contour maps for FM and TV, but they are not uniform. It has no AM contour maps, except those in recent applications. But AM Query properly shows actual AM DA patterns, as esoteric and Sheldon Cooper like as that may be. It's Physics man, and you can't completely water it down.

R-L hasn't been properly showing FM directional patterns.

It was annoying when stations went silent but were still licensed, and the contours were not available.

On my G1's Android browser, I can do a lat/lon search & come up with a list of stations. Clicking the info link brings up a blank white page, though. (I also get that periodically on some sites that work fine in desktop Firefox - I suspect an incompatibility issue. Don't have access to FF atm though.)

I can still see station patterns, though. To do this you go to the direct GIF link. For example here's a very strong (often local-like) station I often listen to at night near El Cajon, CA, and in winter can sometimes be heard midday. They shut off HD a couple months ago, but still use 5 kHz audio I think.

These maps can be viewed even if you've hit the site hit limit. They also work for "silent" stations as well.

To look at other maps, change as follows:

"KMIK" -> desired station's call. Watch out for disagreements on Canadian/Mexican listings though.

In "AM", change "A" to "F" for FM band stations, then…
"M" stays for licensed FM
"L" for LPFM
"B" for an FM booster
"X" for an FM translator

In "LN"…

1st part:
"L" stays for licensed stations
"C" for construction permits
"F" for Canadian/Mexican listings
(I don't know any way to pull up applications, though.)

2nd part:
"N" for night
"D" for day
"C" for critical hours
"U" for unlimited

Ditto the blank screen instead of the maps on that site link, Spunker and Cyberdad. I'd googled around and tried that last night (stations on 1670). The link was maybe the 4th or 5th choice, and the usual R-L list did come up, but no info was available. I'd click on the info button but the resultant page was blank -- saying 'done' at the bottom.

Same thing this morning.

(The 1670 had what sounded like some Oriental language, female DJ ; and there was English sports under it)

Shame if the Radio-Locator site disappears. Despite the occasional inaccuracy, a lot of fine work went into that.

As posted in the other thread on the subject, R-L seems to be back in business....thankfully.

It has been back for a couple of days now. Must have been a server problem.

GE Superadios do not recharge batteries when plugged into an AC wall outlet.

I don't know about the Grundig, but even if it did have recharge capability, it would be for rechargeable batteries only (NiCads, and the like).

Non-rechargeable batteries do not work in battery chargers, in fact they will heat up, and I've read that they can also explode if put in a battery charger. So if your Grundig actually did have a recharger built in, it would be for rechargeable batteries only.

RE: AM listings: there are two good AM band station listings I use, which I use more often than RadioLocator (I only use RadioLocator for the night patterns).

One is AM-DX.com (http://www.am-dx.com/fcclist.htm).

The other site I use, Lee Freshwater's AM DX list, lists stations by frequency and format. I use this site the most often.:
http://www.amlogbook.com/

Stations organised by frequency:
http://www.amlogbook.com/freq/freq.htm

I save a copy of this last one to notepad and then update as changes are made to formats, calls, etc.
