AM nighttime bandscan video 3-6-12

Cool video. Thanks for posting. Sounds like not much was coming through last night ... very surprised WTVN wasn't louder up your way. Maybe you're in the cancellation zone, but I've never had problems getting 610 on the turnpike between Cleveland and Toledo at night.
A few other observations:
- Guessing 1170 was WWVA. Good signal especially being "behind" the pattern as you are.
- What was the music on 1190? Once upon a time, we would have known. :)
- Do you hear anything of WKNR at night out there? I attended a wedding reception in Avon back in September and snuck out to get updates on OSU football ... once they hit night pattern, it was unlistenable even for me and I had to switch to 930.
- Don't let anyone at the CRTC see this. They'll be furious that you can hear 800 on the south shore of the lake. :D ::)

Great scan but it must have been a sucky, semi-auroral night. Classic Country on 1190 coming in clear...I have less than no clue. The 1290 was WHIO, Dayton, I recognized Larry Hansgen and the local Grismer Tire spot.

Funny that you mention this. I had to cover a basketball game in Springfield last night and this was right about the time I was starting my drive back to Columbus, listening to some of the Flyers game (on 95.7, granted, but still). I think I must have been a few minutes later than this, though, because I don't remember listening to commercials. I was pleasantly surprised at the night signal 1290 puts into Springfield; that lobe must be the one that makes it listenable for you.

Nice scan!

First thing I recognized was Radio Enciclopedia from Cuba on 530 with their signature elevator music.

Interesting to hear many other Cubans too including Radio Reloj on 570.

Was one of the stations on 610 WIP? If so, that's a real good catch as they are 5kw.

Noticed KYW on 1060 and WPHT on 1210.

I've heard WIP in the Chicago area many times.

I've heard WIP in the Toledo area under WTVN. One night back in the summer of 1999, it was fighting the good fight with WTVN until the latter went to its pattern change (the night lobe pretty much shoots directly at Toledo).

Wow. I didn't know it could be heard that far. Nice catch!

If only they sent more signal my way. I've always wanted to hear a 5kw Philly station down here.

850 is always a jumble here at night and WKNR once in a while will barely poke thru the mess. I have heard an oldies station on 850 at night before on top of the others. I was at the IX Center Car show on 3-2-12 and had trouble getting WKNR as close in as North Olmsted on I-480 at night. Cincinnati's ESPN 1530 was coming in clear as a bell though.
As far as 1170, WWVA is a news/talk station and I was getting a Christian or Gospel station and so I don't know where that was coming from. I'm stumped too as to what was coming in on 1190 with that music.

If you listen carefully, you'll notice that both 1150 and 1280 are playing the same song, 'Key Largo' by Bertie Higgins. Wonder if those 2 frequencies are simulcast somewhere.

Do you have any idea what was on 990? It sounded like a pretty good signal.

WWVA still runs some brokered religion at night, may well still be them. 1150 and 1280 may be 2 stations carrying the same satellite music service. We've got the big solar storm tonight, could be fun. 1190 could be Dallas if they were late switching power and pattern.

Do you ever get KOA from Denver on 850? I know they're a regular in Chicago with a semi-decent signal so I'd imagine it could break through that slop on 850 and be heard in Ohio.

I may have gotten KOA this evening. I did another bandscan and on 850 I heard an ABC news update with lots of other 850s underneath. Once I get the video uploaded perhaps someone can confirm.

If you were using a directional receive antenna (loop or loopstick), in what azimuth plane was the null oriented?

Radio Reloj frequently causes havoc with my Cleveland Indians games on WKBN.
