am on fm??

with wsb in Atlanta coming to fm begs the question would any station here in Boston or providence but where??? all the cbs stations seem to be doing well, entercom doesn't have a news outlet but wrko could be converted to news and then simulcast?? nyc has two news outlets why not us?? i dont know just throwing things out there

Boston had 55 stations with some kind of arbitron rating last month, Atlanta had 36.

I know that's not the be all end all (some stations aren't encoded/some have listeners but just not enough to register/etc) but it should give you an idea of how much more crowded the dial is here as compared to there (and most other markets that I know of).

Was thinking the same thing with the news about WSB but I'm not sure if it'll happen. Some thoughts:

--If 94.5 or 107.9 were getting crappy ratings that could have been the home for CC's Rush Radio

--WRKO's ratings going down; would they consider news? They would have WBZ competing with
them except 8 pm-early morning. If they did they might still keep Howie--his contract runs till
2012 after all--and go all news the rest of the day, but...no wait. All news means hiring people.
Paying money. Entercom? Only if they felt it could be profitable.

--In Providence I believe WPRO is simulcast on 99.7, right? (Also WTAG in Worc is on 94.9 too
I believe)

>> WPRO News Talk 630/ 99.7 FM

--Of course I'd love to have WEEI at 93.7 so I can hear the ballgames etc but as I said before,
Mike is making them money, apparently. 103.7? Can it cover all areas? 97.7, ditto?
CBS of course does have a talk based signal with Sports Hub. And Greater Media has been
doing talk on FM with 96.9 since, what, 1999? They are actually beating out RKO in certain
ratings categories

Would we have a simulcast of a WRKO, WEEI, or even WBZ (if you have HD radio, the latter
2 are on already) on FM, or would the signals move to FM and something else goes on AM?

Interesting concept, not that it would happen:

The NEW WRKO-FM 93.7--News/Talk All Day, Sox/Celts At Night
6 am-3 pm News
3-7 pm Howie Carr
7 pm Sox or Celts (// WEEI)

etc

i like that idea of bringing wrko to fm i think that would solve the redsox celts problems at night especially if you work late shifts but we are only two people here.

If CBS ever decided to simulcast WBZ on WODS, they could promote it as 103 AM and 103 FM.

WBZ (AM) was simulcast on WODS HD3 for a little while, before 98.5 WBZ-FM was created last year and it was moved to HD3 there.

The best solution would have been to expand the FM band and reassign AM. There really aren't any clear channel stations anymore, not even 'BZ.

It would take awhile to make radios capable of it and the old ones would still exist but make it
76-108 MHz if possible and put the AM stations on the low end of the FM dial

or you could just start licensing more 87.7 & 87.9 stations now that the channel 6 issue is gone

By the way, WINS-AM and WCBS-FM broadcast their signals on HD3 signals on their FM stations. WCBS is on WCBS-FM HD3 and WINS is on WFSS-FM HD3. I believe that HD3 or HD4 channes are the best places to put AM radio stations.
Or maybe the FCC will tell the AM clear channels to reduce their blowtorch power to 10,000 watts between dusk and dawn. That would allow daytime radio stations on these frequencies to operate full time!
